Podenca Freya arrived at GRA in February, pregnant after wandering around the campo, just in time to give birth in a safe and clean environment. See the video.
At her arrival she was very timid but after giving birth and raising 6 beautiful puppies we see another Freya. She’s playing, good with other dogs and not shy anymore.
She is now hoping for her forever home. See more photos of her on this weblink.
Also at GRA is Podenco Marlos. Thanks to an uncaring hunter he has a deformed knee. However, that doesn’t need to be a problem – I had a galgo Polar with an injured knee and it didn’t stop him enjoying life to the full! Read more about Marlos on this weblink.
If you can offer either of these beautiful podencos a forever home, please contact Sandy at GRA direct.
Axarquia Animal Shelter currently have a couple of podencos and podenco x hounds who are hoping for forever homes. The 2 podencos are both male and have experience home life. Sadly the situations changed and they are hoping there are people who would love to have them in a home environment again.
Have a look at this weblink and meet the podencos, there are videos of them, and contact the association direct if you have room in your home and heart for one of them. The one in the photo is Hari.
On my blog you can find lots of information about podencos and the different types. They range from the small Maneto and Erbano to the big Campanero. There are even some types which are particular to a particular area, like the Podenco Paternina from the Huelva province of Spain.
There’s a wealth of information on podencos on my blog, you can put your question in the ‘Search’ box, but here’s a recent article which I thought was interesting.
Dogs of Portugal – 3 lovely Portuguese Podengos – posted so you can see how different they are.
“The Journey” by Crystal Ward Kent
When you bring a pet into your life, you begin a journey – a journey that will bring you more love and devotion than you have ever known, yet also test your strength and courage.
If you allow, the journey will teach you many things, about life, about yourself, and most of all, about love. You will come away changed forever, for one soul cannot touch another without leaving its mark.
Along the way, you will learn much about savoring life’s simple pleasures;
jumping in leaves, snoozing in the sun, the joys of puddles, and even the satisfaction of a good scratch behind the ears.
‘We really need to find forever homes for these amazing Podenco Andaluz puppies’
Podencos are lively dogs and that’s why they’ll very soon have to move out of the Puppy House. The walls aren’t high.
Podencos are climbers and they’re also jumpers so it’s just a matter of time before they’ll be over the wall and wreaking havoc in the garden. They’re cheeky lovable scallywags and while they’re still in the Puppy House, their little characters shine through but once they’re in the big kennels they’re vieing for attention with dozens of other dogs and become in danger of being another “anonymous” dog.
Pepe, Pablo and Pancho are now 6 months old. I do hope there’s a chance for them. Contact me. Mary-Ann Dunning, volunteer at Paradise Kennels – paradisekennels@live.com

‘Here are all the podencos that we have who are ready and waiting for their forever homes. They are all special with wonderful individual personalities. Podencos make such wonderful family dogs as they are so affection. Most of our podencos are good with other dogs and really enjoy playtime with their pals. They all walk well on the leash and many are house trained.
If you want to find out their full details please check www.akira-animals.com or the Facebook albums. You can also email akirashelter@aol.com or whatsapp +34 657 68 95 67.
There are several different types of podenco, from the small Maneto and Erbano to the Canario, Ibicenco and the largest, the Campanero. Generally they are much more active than galgos, make great agility dogs or canicross dogs and are exgtremely intelligent. They make loyal pets so this is what you should know about the Podenco.
