X Podenco Snoopy – beating the odds in Spain
This delightul cutie pie is Snoopy, a x podenco puppy, now living happily with the Scott family, between the UK and Spain. Ivor Scott tells the story.
‘Well,, my wife & I had a Border Collie called Jess,she was a special girl, very clever,, each year we came to Spain for 6 months, sadly last year Jess died from cancer aged 13 years,, we were devastated.
When we returned to Spain in November 2011, life was so empty, there was a huge void. We had decided not to get another dog, so we made contact with Pat Coleman, the founder of F-A-M-A animal rescue in Fuengirola, Andalucia. We offered our time to go dog walking.

SARA Lanzarote – saving animals in the Canary Islands
I mention many times how hard it is for the podencos in the Canary Islands to find forever homes. The SARA Lanzarote newsletter popped into my mailbox today and I couldn’t believe that Rodrigo, this beautiful podenco, is still in the SARA shelter – 5 years on! He’s a failed hunter, good to walk on a lead, good with children and adults and other dogs. Surely there must be someone somewhere who has a place in their heart for him?
They have donzens of deserving podencos there, amongst all the other dogs, please contact them direct if you can help Rodrigo or any of the others.

Little Pod Foundation – trying to save 40 more podencos
You will all be horrified and sickened by this news which has come in from the Little Pod Foundation in Murcia.
This is the original message. ‘Calling ALL Podenco Lovers!! We have just received emails about 40 Podencos living in terrible conditions in Benissa. The majority are females being used for breeding. In the video clips (haven’t a link to it yet) you can see their dirty drinking water is out of reach, there is no food and they are all on short chains. You can see two already have severe inuries to their back legs and Seprona have already been called in and will going back in a couple of days. This situation is Urgent and these dogs need help!!! Please contact us if you can help in any way, thank you’
Further investigation has revealed the appalling news that the owner of these dogs is an officer of the law, and refuses to give them up!

Podenco dead on his feet – safe with Little Pod Foundation – seeking forever?
This is Alfred he was found collapsed in the blazing sun in a remote area of the campo on Friday the 25th May. He was one lucky Podenco found by Manuela and her friends out cycling. He was so exhausted that he couldn’t even raise his head to drink some water. Thankfully they picked him up and took him to a local vet who then contacted Little Pod Foundation.
On Friday we were very concerned, not only was he covered in ticks and fleas, his pads were ripped to shreds and very swollen, but most worrying he was unable to stand up.
Amazingly 72 hours later we see a different dog, what a recovery Alfred has made. He is negative for Leishmania, filaria and ehrlichia, has his passport and is ready to travel.

Dogs in, Dogs out – busy time at Association 112carlotagalgos
It’s a busy time at the moment at 112carlotagalgos in Malaga. Two of their rescued and rehabilitated galgos Bruno and Halo have now headed off to Belgium and forever homes, Polyana and Gandalf are settling into their new homes in the UK, and podenca Angela Angelica heads off to the USA tomorrow (28th May) and her forever family. But 3-legged beauty Ana is still waiting – surely there is a place in someone’s heart for this stunning podenca.

28th May 2012 – Podencas Angela and Trini – from Spain to the USA
Two more lucky podencos on their way to their forever families. Galgo Rescue International Network will be flying Angela and Trini to the US to begin the final stage of the rest of their lives. Great news. Read about it here.

SARA Lanzarote, Canary Islands – Lombi now looking for a home in the UK
Rick and Lesley Beauchamp do a marvellous job rehoming podencos from SARA Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. Rick has appealed for help in rehoming Lombi, who is now at their home in Lincolnshire, UK.
‘I’ve come on for assistance in finding a home for a lovely 5 year old Podenco Cross
(poss with GSD) dog called Lombi. He went into SARA as a puppy and graduated to the dullest, dingiest corner of the shelter where no dog ever gets homed. Klaus the long serving kennel hand begged us with clasped hands to bring this chap back to the UK. He has the loveliest nature although currently a little wary of strangers. -
Delightful Daisy with Noah’s Arc, Mazarron – adopt her?
Daisy is a cute podenca in foster for the charity Noahs Arc, Mazarron, Here’s what her foster mom says about her. ‘I have had her since she was picked up from the Totana area, she is approx 4 1/2 months old, she was left tied to an English couple’s gate and was covered in ticks. Now she is beautiful now in every way, very loving, clean, walks well on a lead and good in the car, perfect pup.’
