Protectora La Bienvenida, Ciudad Real – Podenco Campaneros in rescue

I first visited La Bienvenida refuge, Cuidad Real (200km south of Madrid) in July 2007 with the French association L’Europe des Levriers. We collected 4 galgos from there to bring back to France and forever homes. One of them was Karmel who I adopted and shortly after I created my blog Galgo News to publicise the plight of the galgos and podencos.

This is the story of 2 Podenco Campaneros (the large white woolly podencos used to hunt boar and deer) which La Bienvenida have rescued.

This is the story, photos are on their website – warning, very distressing.

If you can help with the costs of the enormous vet fees which will be incurred to help these 2 hounds recover, details are below.

This is one of the worst cases of abuse and neglect that we have seen in the 35 years of life of this protectora. Two podencas that day 11/6/16 were dumped from a van in March 20166 in the area of the university of Ciudad Real, they took the license plate covered, wanted to get rid without a trace of these two poor creatures. It is difficult to estimate the age they are, but we believe that could be a mother and daughter. What if we know is that they have suffered a life of pain, of beatings, of solitude… His eyes are brown, the mommy, the blue-Green of the daughter, they have been beaten, old wounds from years of pain.

They are traumatised from the cruelty and the worst part is that we believe they did not live alone, it’s possible that there are still some souls in that hellhole created by the barbarian who did this. How many beauties are there like them, so he can enjoy his days of hunting.

From their condition it is obvious they did not eat, that probably the only food they had was their own faeces, living locked up with almost no light, no escape, no hope… Just resignation and waiting for him to come and visit them for the sweet release of death to which they were convicted.

If no one helped, what was their only hope to get out of there. They have serious skin disease, there is hardly any hair now covering their delicate little bodies, the tremor is continuous, and the wounds and scabs are counted in dozens.

It will be a long and hard road ahead for their recovery, and it is possible they not even survive. The world needs to know about this, they’re out there, and that they and many like them, need something in the mind of the insensitive and heartless human being to change.

Help them! We need a house where they can recover and disseminates their story! We all have an obligation to get their life to change, they need to see the good side of people, feel what it’s like to have a caress, just to be able to have day to day with food, love, hiking. What for you is something normal with your pet for them is a dream, something unthinkable. We need to give them a second chance, to experience a forever life.

Thank you to everyone that might help, the two podencas need right now a temporary foster home, to be able to be calm and recover When they leave the vet clinic to eventually give them a permanent home. The foster home has to be in Ciudad Real, to facilitate the visits to the vet. Please help by making a donation to cover the veterinary costs.

This is terrible! Heart smashed into bits looking at the state of these two dogs. The monster who did this needs to not exist and I am wishing for his early and painful demise. This psycho is bound to have other dogs, all no doubt brutalised. Pure evil is what he is. I don’t wonder that the rescue say this is the worst case they have ever seen and that the dogs might not survive. I am willing them to survive, they deserve to feel gentle hands, to feel safe and loved. Thank you to the rescue for saving them, I will donate and hope lots of people donate and share on social media.
