I always promote adopting a podenco – or any dog – from a recognised rescue association. But I’m posting this to show you how heartbreaking it is, opening my Inbox to appeals like this…every day appeals to help save podencos on death row in perreras; recently many of them have been small puppies. Such a sickening and unnecessary waste of beautiful lives, just because the
bastard galgueros keep breeding and breeding…
There are 13 on death row in the perrera in Ciudad Real (where my first galga Karmel was saved from). Here is the appeal to save them.
These 13 podencos are on death row in Perrera de Valdepeñas, Ciudad Real (Central Spain). The need urgent help, as new dogs keep entering the pound every week and it’s full!
Some of them are old and some of them really young. All of them are scared to death and having a really tough time in there!
Please, help! The contact is the pound’s vet, who deals with reservations, adoptions and informs about the proceedings. They can be sent elsewhere:

this is always heart breaking for these poor souls the f—–s that breed these beautiful dogs have no remorse what so ever for their well being ignorant self centred b——s what help is needed beryl apart from the obvious adoption the one thing I cant do at this present time
Foster homes or money to pay kennel fees, to get them out of the perrera.
Poor things just thrown away like rubbish. They look so frightened. The awful thing is that if these 13 get homes or rescue places, which I hope they do, I imagine that there will be another 13 who will instantly take their place, so heartbreaking.
ok what is the paypal address d you know is this vet English speaking
Ask the vet, Jen. But it is really best for an association to offer to take a dog and they will collect the money. I don’t have any more info at the moment.
picked our podenco x shar-pie up from the dog home a few days ago he was rescued from spain, but the owner left him for 13 hours a day and the dog was at the vets ready to be put to sleep but the RSPCA found him a space just in time (lucky dog)
He is under weight and a few health problems but is doing well. So far he has been a pleasure to own very loving and loves traveling in my husbands work van. Shows promise of being a fantastic, loyal loving dog who will give us hours of pleasure. Jean
How lucky for your dog in that he was rescued. Did he go to the previous adoptant via an association? I can’t imagine why anyone would get a dog if they were away from home 13 hours/day! It would be lovely to know more about him. can you email me at banddbrennan@yahoo.co.uk with pix too.
this is horrid for these poor dogs
