Dioni is hoping to travel 26th December to collect Frankfurther Hoggity Doggity. Here’s the story of another podenco, safe for Xmas, who will be travelling with him from 112carlotagalgos to Last Hope Dog Rescue for preparation for rehoming. Charl tells the story.
‘So while we were away Sebastian was called regarding a rescue. This podenco had been followed by Francisco to his door while he took his dogs out he came back and the young pod sat still on his door step. Waiting.. praying he’d come to the right place. He was taken in by the couple but while we were in Belgium they kept him. So here he is! A sweet young pod. Approx 1 year old.
Irene Allan has very kindly said she would help us out with him. This is a pod who is balanced. Playful. No trauma at all. So should be a great addition to anyone’s family. The days he’s been with the couple he was great in their home with their dogs also.
Bless this lucky soul.. saved for Christmas.’
Donations for the 200 euros transport costs to me please, paypal band@bbrennan.eu

donated towards see what I can get throughnext week aswell big thanks to kate beryl charl and last hope dog rescue what a team
Has he gone now and was enough money raised? I noticed there was an appeal on Charls fb page too
I have not been on the computer for a couple of days, so just catching up. But I know that Kate has not been in touch with Dioni to arrange the transport. I have asked Kate for an explanation and am waiting for her reply. Please hold all donation appeals.
Thanks Beryl. It would be such a shame if things didn’t work out positively for this little boy after the chance he has been given
Happy to donate as long as this dog is going to a reputable rescue like Last Hope. I will wait for an update from you Beryl. Surely this must be the best option for him. Also if Carlotagalgos are involved with transporting him then even better.
In the absence of any further communications from Kate, I suspect the worst…
I am much too upset and too angry, and so angry with myself, but especially too upset and sad, to write anything at the moment.
I’ve uploaded here: http://rey-dorado-estropiado.blogspot.com.es/ the account of what I’ve spent and received. If those who donated would kindly write to me at lou.palou@mail.com ,using the email address you use for PayPal and giving me your name and the amount, I will reimburse you as soon as I can – not all at once, obviously, because I haven’t got it, but over the course of a few months and as fast as possible.
Don’t tell me that this dog has been given away to a hunter when he has a damaged leg? Is this what you mean by the worst Beryl? I don’t understand, as donations were given to keep him going for food etc, a place organised at a rescue (with much effort put in by you to try and secure that place for him) and I know further donations would have been given from everyone, including me, to cover the cost of transport. I really don’t understand……poor dog, he could have been safe. I really hope it isn’t bad news for him.
Last Hope, as a result of Kate’s communications with them, have now backed down from taking him. Dioni was willing to travel to collect him on 26th December…never heard from Kate. Pod Dog could have been on his way to Last Hope, or even already there. I finally have received an email that he is still with Kate…thank you everyone for caring and responding to my appeal.
This is awful. Please Kate, do what is right for this boy. We are all so far away but are right behind you to help in any way we can
The best thing for this boy is to go as soon as possible to experienced podenco rescue people who will ensure his leg gets the best treatment before it really is too late. So, Kate, let him go to Bev and Warren – as she has offered to step in, whatever your podenco owner friend says. She will ensure he is sorted and goes to the perfect home for him.
I really do hope that the right thing is done by this dog. The right thing is that this dog goes to Bev and Warren, who are quite clearly very experienced pod rescuers, will ensure the dog gets the best treatment and then a loving home, which must be preferable to the dog ending up in a barn with twenty other dogs, especially as he has a damaged leg. Given that rescue places are like hens teeth, it is a wonderful thing that a place with them has been offered. I cannot understand the hesitation to do the right thing by this dog, as Jane says, it is awful. I would be happy to donate towards transport costs to get him to Bev and Warren.
Jane, it’s not awful at all – please don’t be unhappy, as I’m doing the best thing for the dog. It wasn’t just a sudden emotional reaction; I made a decision after three days and nights of hard thinking and discussion, based entirely on what is best for the dog. And it leaves the funding and the place in a refuge free for another dog who really needs it.
Beryl, I see you haven’t allowed my reply to appear. There’s not much point in trying to answer, then, is there.
It’s not “my podenco owner friend,” it’s a whole pueblo-full of highly experienced people and the specialist super-vet, who has been working with podencos for forty years and whose advice and prognosis you appear to have completely discounted.
Today he was lyng in the place where I first saw him searching under the bins, but this time he was sunbathing at my feet while people admired him. (Not the super-vet – the dog.)
So who is paying for the dog – food, vets bills etc? Is the dog staying with Kate, as I thought she couldn’t afford to keep him any more or pay for vets bills, which is why she needed our donations and was desperate for a rescue place. I thought that Kate wasn’t well enough to look after him? My thoughts are with the dog and the apparent pueblo full of people and a supervet looking out for him. I do think that more gratitude should have been shown to Beryl who has gone out of her way to try and help, to raise donations and secure a rescue place. I think that probably the best thing to do is to close this topic down so that Beryl can focus on other issues on Podenco Post.
I am in touch with Bev. There are times when I feel I can’t manage another day, but I am managing so far. Vet’s bills would be impossible, but it’s too late now the bones have regrown – I should have found a way to get to a good vet at the start, not trusted vet Elvira. He’d have been fine with a different vet, didn’t need an operation, just an x-ray and proper setting, or even proper setting without an x-ray, then he’d be ok. However, everyone says that in a few months he’ll be much better; certainly it’d be a bad idea to try to operate now – if he does need an operation it’ll have to be in a year or so.
All this is irrelevant now Kate. You need to think of Frank’s future. You have done your best for him so far but it’s not fair to ask more of you. It is dangerous for Frank to stay where he is. He could be picked up by a hunter any time and his leg would shatter if they worked him. He needs to be moved to a safe place. Winter is here and he deserves warmth comfort good food and care after what he has been through.
Update 6/1/2015 – Frank is still with Kate – he has missed travelling last Friday with Dioni from Malaga when he took 3 podencos up to Bev Farmer in Murcia. Kate has commented but I will not publish them – suffice to say the last one threatens to sue me – not sure what for! My heart is very heavy for the future of this lovely little dog. Thank you all for caring.
