Rick and Lesley Beauchamp do a marvellous job rehoming podencos from SARA Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. Rick has appealed for help in rehoming Lombi, who is now at their home in Lincolnshire, UK.

‘I’ve come on for assistance in finding a home for a lovely 5 year old Podenco Cross
(poss with GSD) dog called Lombi. He went into SARA as a puppy and graduated to the dullest, dingiest corner of the shelter where no dog ever gets homed. Klaus the long serving kennel hand begged us with clasped hands to bring this chap back to the UK. He has the loveliest nature although currently a little wary of strangers.

Like all long term SARA inmates he is quite institutionalised, all I have to do is open the door to his kennel and he pops back quite readily as that’s his safety place. But he walks out nicely on his lead, comes back off his lead and thus far hasn’t bogged of after rabbits! He obviously isn’t housetraind but he comes in the house and is well behaved and doesn’t cock his leg – and if he doesn’t in our house he won’t anywhere as I cannot ever blame a dog for doing this in our house with all the other doggy smells around the place!

When you sit down with him and the others he quietly sidles up to you and cuddles up, he’s just a bit shy to start with as, apart from some love off Klaus, I don’t think that he’s had any other affection in his life. (The volunteers all have so many other dogs to handle too).’
