Here’s another stunning Podenco – named Peter. He’s currently in foster with Freda and Barry Young, who have to return to the UK in September for several months. They desperately want to find a forever home for him, as, if you read his story, going back to the refuge is the last place he needs to go.
‘He is a small podenco weighing about 12Kg. He is very timid but once he has relaxed he is full of fun and very affectionate. He is about 10 – 12 months old and is castrated and vaccinated.
He was thrown over the fence in February at the CAS refuge where we work and when we let the other dogs out for their exercise, about 40 dogs surrounded him. Although we rescued him as quickly as possible, he was very traumatised. He stayed in the refuge for a few weeks but was bullied by the other dogs.
Because of this we offered to foster him until a loving home could be found for him. He settled down quickly with our two dogs who he obviously loves and has also stayed with a friend who has two cats with no problems. He enjoys being with a few dogs but is very frightened in a large number.
Unfortunately, we have to return to England in September for several months and are very concerned for his safety if he has to return to the refuge. So an offer of a loving home would be so much appreciated.’
If anyone can offer this fabulous dog his forever home, please contact Vera (0034) 9522529670 or Wendy Thorne at CAS
UPDATE – September 2011
Barry says, Thank you so much for your concern for our little Peter. The answer is yes, he has a new home in Germany with a lady who has just lost her Podenco after a long illness. I found it very hard for a few days after he left us and had to keep reminding myself that he is now in a loving home away from any bullying. He was a very special dog with so much character once he relaxed with us.

hi Vera or Wendy, I am hoping to have an owner for you. My daughter has moved to Feutreventura and misses us all terribly. She works as a surf instructor so would have lots of time to spend with him. Obviously huge vet bills are out of the question at present so we just need to know that he is fully inoculated etc.I return to England on thursday so would love to arrange for her to have the dog soon. I am struggling to email you on her computer so here is her adress tee_mcguinness@yahoo.com .if the dog is still available.Thank you.Jean-Martine

I’ve forwarded your post to Wendy and also emailed her with your daughter’s email address too. Marked it Priority. Not sure where your daughter is, is if Fuertenventura you mean, in the Canary Islands, or is it on the Spanish mainland?
Thanks so much for caring and posting and….here’s hoping for Peter. I’m sure Peter will already have his full EU pet passport.
She is in Corralejo, Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. Thank you for replying so quickly!
Kindest Regards
