Finland – sending a rescue dog for rehoming – consider very seriously before sending it
Many podencos, galgos and greyhounds (from Ireland) are adopted in Norway and Sweden without a problem. However Finland is further north. I am disturbed by the news that a podenco from Galgos del Sur went to Finland for adoption believing there was no problem for the podenco – the Finnish authorities are being very difficult about it, and the podenco is not allowed to be rehomed. The podenco is still in Finland whilst an association tries to rehome him. (Bloody bureacrats!) So, anyone wanting to know more about the problems for importing a rescued dog to Finland for adoption, here are some links.

Sponsor a kennel, sponsor a piece of fencing, sponsor a bag of cement! 112carlotagalgos appeals
Many of the Spanish refuges and associations are very small, existing from month to month on donations, the local councils turning a blind eye to the problem of abandonment of dogs, even though by law they should provide a dog pound.
112carlotagalgos is one such small association in Malaga. Charl del Rio has been working on behalf of the galgos and podencos in Spain for many years, latterly caring for traumatised, injured and sick dogs prior to rehoming. She’s also given talks in local schools about the problem of abandonment of dogs. Her dream has been to have an educational centre where children can visit and learn to respect animals and care for them, especially dogs. Now she hopes her dream is about to come true. But she needs your help. Here’s the story.

Bullas boys searching for forever homes – contact Ibizan Hound Rescue
I recently posted an appeal for homes for some podenco puppies whose Mom was one of the podencas rescued from Bullas, Murcia, in Operation Rehala. 4 of the pups are still waiting for their forever homes. They are in foster in Spain and will be ready to travel to the UK at the end of July. They will be stunning Ibizan Hounds and, as mentioned before, the breed can make superb agility dogs – they often compete in agility in Germany. If you can offer one of these gorgeous boys a home, please contact Valerie of Ibizan Hound Rescue.

Home required Urgently for Peter Podenco – please help CAS
Here’s another stunning Podenco – named Peter. He’s currently in foster with Freda and Barry Young, who have to return to the UK in September for several months. They desperately want to find a forever home for him, as, if you read his story, going back to the refuge is the last place he needs to go.
‘He is a small podenco weighing about 12Kg. He is very timid but once he has relaxed he is full of fun and very affectionate. He is about 10 – 12 months old and is castrated and vaccinated.
He was thrown over the fence in February at the CAS refuge where we work and when we let the other dogs out for their exercise, about 40 dogs surrounded him. Although we rescued him as quickly as possible, he was very traumatised. He stayed in the refuge for a few weeks but was bullied by the other dogs.
