This is a sad story of podencos at the bottom of Spain, La Linea, near Cadiz and opposite Gibraltar. Podenco World tells the story of Peter’s Diary, Peter runs the La Linea animal shelter, 600 dogs including 200 podencos.

These podencos are in the killing station in Cordoba, on death row. It was not their choice that they were born in Spain…..that their lives should end like this.

He’s only 8 months old, 7.2 kilos so a small boy, spent the winter living on the street as a puppy! He likes to play, is healthy and loving and loyal, he captivates everyone who meets him. DDEVIDA is one of the associations which spends a lot of time visiting schools and youth groups educating the younger generations in Spain that animals should be treated with respect, how to care for them, not to dump them, etc.

This is Reina, an Ibizan Podenca, probably no more than a year old. She appeared at Easter on the streets of Valencia. She has been rescued and is currently in a foster home. She is sweet and loving, submissive at the moment but with care and love, her character will emerge.

‘Blanca is a beautiful 3-year podenquita which was adopted last week in Barcelona.
Today is called the adopter and says he wants to return it because the dog follows her everywhere and is overwhelming. Blanca has been abused and needs a home to help her overcome her fears. We cannot let her return to our shelter in Jaén. We are saturated and there are fights every day. Some die when attacked by other dogs. Blanca does not deserve that after having experienced the warmth of a home.

Here’s another beautiful podenco abandoned on the streets of Jaen, lucky to escape being injured on the road. She’s affectionate with females, but terrified of men (what a surprise!). We’ve have a temporary home for her but we need to find somewhere else before 10th May. Has anyone room for her?

‘Hi all, I’m Emi. Arantxa, a volunteer from the kennel Etxauri. This is Bo, who who loves and does not understand how nobody has even noticed him.
BO came in August 2009 from a seedy kennel in Valencia. His kennelmate Scooby died, and Bo was alone and sad. We rescued him from there 2 years ago and he is still waiting in our kennels, but why? Bo is a hound, Ibizan and Portuguese. Beautiful, noble, good and happy in essence, loves to walk in the mountains and is obedient and loyal. Bo needs a home, but mostly, Bo deserves a family.’
