Hind leg dew claws – what to do about them
One of the podencos recently rescued from Valencia perrera is Ray, a rough-haired boy who is now in foster with Bev Farmer. He was recently castrated and, at the same time, his rear dew claws removed.
I’ve lived with all types of dogs all my life and been in involved in the rescue of a few hundred, especially from Spain, and I’ve not come across a dog with rear dew claws. So I asked Bev about it and also found this information on the Internet.

Podencos in Murcia waiting for forever homes
As usual, my recent visit to Spain was full of action and, even better, rescued dogs! You can read about my visit to ACTIN on this link. From there I spent a couple of days with Bev and Warren and their 26 podencos at the finca they recently moved to. Most of the podencos are waiting for their forever homes, including Solo and Carina. Little puppy Sky and his best buddy Rembrandt already have adoptions arranged, as does Dave and little Maneto Lily. Please contact Bev if you would like more information on her podencos. Podenco Andaluz Solo – seeking his forever home and family
Introducing handsome podenco Solo, who is with Bev Farmer. He’s desperate for a family and a loving home to call his own for the rest of his life. Can you find a place for him? Bev Farmer describes his character.
‘This is Solo he has been at Pepis Refuge since he first wandered into their gates as a puppy back in 2008.
For some reason no one has shown any interest in him, it’s such a shame that he has not had a family of his own for 5 years.
To help out Solo has come to us and he is a super Podenco very friendly loves to play with the other dogs very quick to learn and wants to please. He is a really affectionate dog and not a loner and at night time he sits on Warre’sn lap while Warren’s drinking a beer or two.
I think he will be brilliant at agility and we will start with some training with him. He has his passport up to date vaccinations, blood tested and negative and is castrated. Thank you to Beryl who sponsored Solo and organised for him to travel to us.

Valencia – podenco pups rescued from the streets
Sienna and Mocha are two podenco sisters found wandering the streets of Valencia, alone and in danger. They are now safe. 3 months old, healthy and friendly, with no fear of people, good with other dogs and cats. Operation Rehala, Bullas, Murcia – help save the podencos
Los Perros de Bullas – Today (8th March 2012) it has been agreed with much teamwork from The Little Pod Foundation, SOS Animals UK, the Animal Welfare Support Murcia group and Podenco Friends to find temporary care and rescue for some of the misfortunate Podencos in the Bullas tragedy. If the rescue is successful, it is hoped that between 8 and 10 dogs will be saved, plus any puppies that are still there.
