  • Reflections on the Bullas, Murcia, rescue on 9th March 2012 – 120 dogs

    The Shame of Spain -250  Viv 3 2012Regular readers will have been following the two large rescues carried out in Murcia in January and February 2012, namely at a gypsy camp with 74 dogs, and Bullas with 120 dogs. Vivienne Wharton lives near Cartegena, Murcia and has written about her experiences with the Bullas rescue on 9th March 2012.

    The shame in Spain

    I recently started my activities in a facebook group – Animal Welfare Support Murcia, whilst waiting for my Association, Actin, to be registered by the Town Hall. Actin – Animal Care Treatment International Network is not a rescue charity but an Association which will endeavor to make changes to the overwhelming situation of abandoned and neglected dogs, cats and other domestic animals in the region. We plan to do this through many activities including education and campaigns.

  • Podenca Andaluz Tamy – in cheap hotel accommodation in Spain

They try their best for their masters – and mistresses – and are rewarded by being dumped – anywhere – busy roads, down wells, on the campo with broken legs, in the killing stations. Killing stations – barking dogs, stressed dogs, some of the worst perreras don’t believe in feeding dogs to be killed, water is green – I’ve the reports and photos on my weblogs.   • Happy Endings Final Feliz – Fabi waits with them for a forever home

    Fabi 1 Eva Happy Ends 250 1 1 2012This is an appeal from Happy Endings Final Feliz in Chiclana near Cadiz. Last winter friends of mine spent a couple of months there helping the association with abandoned dogs and looking after them. They came back with two puppies which had been born to an abandoned podenca; now named Oliver and Nancy, the puppies are benefiting from being in a home environment, although Nancy continues to be nervous of strangers.

    Fabi is another such young dog, whose mother was a Podenca. Karen takes up his story.

    ‘He’s been waiting for nearly a year for someone to take him into their heart. He’s around 3 years old and is a very sweet dog.
