  • RIP Bocelli – the blind podenco

    Bo face 1 400
The reason for a lack of news in the past few days is that our blind Podenco has crossed the rainbow bridge to join the rest of our enormous pack of deceased hounds and his passing has left a huge hole in our lives because he was a particularly special dog.

Bo as he was known came to us in November 2021, rescued from a starved chained life in Lorca by Ibizan Hound Rescue. Blind Dog Rescue UK took on the task of finding him a forever home, which was us. He was special because he was blind, could only differentiate between shadow and black. He never ceased to amaze us how he confidently found his way around using his ears and nose. Walked outside of our enclosed garden, he was always on a Blind Dog harness. He learned to walk up a ramp into the back of the car because he was too heavy for us to lift. People always wanted to know about him and how he coped – he was a wonderful advertisement for adopting a blind dog.

  • Podenco Campanero looking for her forever home

    NAC Campanearo 1 5 2025 350
Introducing LENA. She’s a 3 year old Campanero, beautiful as you can see. She arrived in the Cuenca Hostel with her brother Ascua. They came from a place where they were in bad conditions.

Lena is shy with humans, she barely lets you touch or put on a leash. Even if they manipulate her to vaccinate or examine her she doesn’t bite. She always goes with Ascua, her brother. They both have a really fun spot together and it’s a sight to watch them run.

Leña needs a lot of patience from her adopter so that she can trust. It would be wonderful if she could take that path, reduce her fear of humans and finally live in a home she has never known. Best of luck beautiful girl!

  • Telde, Gran Canaria – Seprona finally take action against bad galgueros!

The Canary Islands are notoriously hell for podencos especially. Because of the mountainous terrain, it is easy for unscrupulous hunters to keep podencos hidden in valleys away from public sight in terrible conditions, often overcrowded, no shade from the sun, and starved. So let’s hope this news is the start of an improvement for podencos on ALL the Canary Islands.

FINALLY AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL OF SPAIN!

The Telde City Hall in GRAN CANARIA has launched a large operation for Podencos on its territory, having finally identified hundreds of abandoned post hunting, and spotted by drones the Podencos wandering around the training and hunting areas.

  • Special home needed for tripod Podenca Blanqui

    From AA Dog Rescue

    Introducing Blanqui

Blanqui is looking for a very special home. This brave little girl has been through so much. While trying to protect her newborn babies, Blanqui was savagely attacked by another dog. The injuries were so severe that she had to have one of her legs amputated.
But despite everything she’s endured, Blanqui remains a sweet, gentle soul.

She’s 9 years old, sterilised, vaccinated, and blood tested. She’s great with other dogs, doesn’t react to cats, and is fine with children.

  • Coping with a dog with disabilities

We adopted a blind dog. He is amazing. He uses his nose and ears to find his way around, uses a ramp to get into the car (he’s a bit heavy to lift). During my years with a French rescue association, we brought back to France for homing several tripod galgos and podencos. They never ceased to surprise me how they coped with three legs.

So this weblink takes you to an article about coping with a dog with disabilities.
