  • Imprisonment for the animals in Spain – the hunter perpetrators get away scot free

Video (on facebook but you may be able to view it) made by Peter Koekebakker of life for hunting dogs in Spain. No hygiene, no permits! 600 dogs are here from various hunters! Also people who work for the police keep their dogs here! No entry to the bunkers, no control by the municipalities or the police! It’s been twenty years like this and it will stay this way with the hunting federations and our White Collar Mafia Mess in Brussels!

  • Helping the Lanzarote podencos – why we do it

Rick Beauchamp is a volunteer for SARA Protectora on Lanzarote, Canary Islands. He helps rehome rescued podencos in the UK. He writes about why he does it.

Very often people ask us why we bother rescuing dogs from Lanzarote when there are so many homeless here in the UK?

Our answer I feel rarely convinces, as you have to see the suffering of the dogs to really appreciate why we feel that we have absolutely no choice but to try and help.

Recently we came across this article on the SARA website www.saraprotectora.org.
I have transferred the article verbatim as it adds to the poignancy.

  • The Stark Reality of life in Spain – what the tourists don’t see

Video made by Bev Farmer. The truth about life in Spain for the majority of animals and what the tourists never see. Also the reality of life for animals on the Canary Islands – also a Province of Spain.

  • A sad story of betrayal – or ‘some people should never have a dog’.

Not a podenco but a very sad story from Scooby of betrayal of love and loyalty.

  • Spanish councils and animal cruelty

    Isa Bel says:

    Spain

shout it out loud! THAT COUNCILS IN SPAIN VIOLATE SYSTEMATICALLY THE LAWS AND ORDINANCES OF ANIMAL PROTECTION. They do not control responsible animal ownership, do not control chips, census, or conditions in which the animals are held. They moreover do not control legal or illegal breeding, do not promote or request sterilisation, do not combat dogfighting business and furthermore do not promote CES for colonies of cats… THEY DON’T CARE FOR ANIMALS.

  • Mijas animal shelter threatened with closure…contrary Spanish authorities

There are times when the Spanish authorities make me bloody fuming! I don’t usually swear but this story really is unbelievable. Take particular note of why the authorities want to close the shelter, then remember the dogs incarcerated in a metal container in Murcia and just this week the Granada podencos rescued from underground bunkers! The latter story is on facebook but you might just be able to see it here.

What is wrong with the Spanish authorities that they can’t be consistent?!

Unfortunately only Spanish nationals with an identity card can sign the petition.

  • Canary Islands – these guys are looking to leave!

SARA Guapo 170 5 2015The Canary Islands Podencos need homes! SARA Protectora have some fabulous ones who wait and wait…and wait…Rick Beauchamp introduces you to some.

GUAPO NEEDS YOUR HELP Guapo was rescued from one of the “killing stations” on Lanzarote. He has been in SARA shelter since 23/3/2010, just over 5 years!!! He was only a very young dog when he was rescued, he is thought to be about 5 1/2 !! He is active and bouncy and loves other dogs. Hes a big lad too around 60 cm at the shoulders. An active chap like Guapo needs to be with a family, can anyone supply him with the love and kindness he so desparately needs? As with all the SARA dogs Guapo is neutered, microchipped and fully inoculated!

I am in the process of getting a consignment of dogs together so please message me if you can help Guapo or why not visit the SARA website www.saraprotectora.org and look at the other inmates,if you want further information on any one of them I’d gladly help. rick.beauchamp@express-recruitment.co.uk

  • Braveheart – ACTIN in action again

Valiente 1 250 14 5 2015Less than a week ago (May 2015) one of Actin’s team was contacted and asked to investigate this terrible case; a dog tied up on a chain in a hidden cave in a horrible town in Murcia where animals are treated like garbage…

On arrival they found this most pathetic and sad sight and because of what he suffered they named him Valiente, (Brave). Valiente attached to a short chain, old, skinny, sick and hardly able to move, the saddest of souls. He was about to give up, the rescuers were just in time to help him – before he succumbed to his life of misery.

Valiente is about 10 years old, so sad to think someone had him living this hell for all his life and caused him to be in such pain and endure such suffering. His condition as diagnosed by the vet; arthritis atrophy, osteoarthritis atrophy, cachexy, and sclerosis in the eye, amazingly he is not positive for leishmania.
