  • Neglect in Navarre – help Podenca Bat

CPA podenco 1 250 20 11 2015And another poor podenco suffering from the neglect and abuse of the bastard hunters – or in this case also a ‘rescuer’. Here’s her story. I’m checking with the association CPA who have her, that it is Olite in Navarra, northern Spain, as I am not aware it is an area where hunters use podencos. (google translation)

‘Hello. This week we picked up this podenquita of the town of Olite. In spite of living on a daily basis with the neglect and on many occasions with the mistreatment, few times we have dog arrive in this state. It was about to die of starvation. Her condition is delicate, doesn’t eat because it is so weak that it is not capable of doing so. Her temperature was extremely low and even though she kept drinking, it’s so dehydrated that it is not enough.

  • TheKennelKlub, Lanzarote, Canary Islands – saving Angelique

Kennel Klub Tara 2 250‘You think you have seen it all and then a dog like this arrives and breaks your heart all over again. Thank you to the kind person who didn’t just drive on past her. She has sustained serious trauma to the head, the most serious injury of which is a fractured skull. The injuries have happened a few days ago and the wounds are infected and there were maggots in them. The vet has cleaned up the wounds and administered pain killers, anti-inflammatory, antibiotics and she does have an IV to keep her hydrated. Obviously she will loose both of her eyes. We will see how she gets on over night.

  • Galgos 112 – saving Ibizan podenco Sucre

Galgos 112 Surcre 250 15 11 2015It’s a wonder this poor podenco still had the strength to stand. Luckily he is now with Galgos 112 and receiving veterinary care to heal his body and soul. Here’s what Galgos 112 say about him.

‘Sucre is exhausted and weak. His condition is lousy, severe malnutrition and ulcers on all the pressure points on his bones. We are waiting for his blood analysis bu his anaemia is evident. He’s also dehydrated. He still has the strength to move around and respondes to each caress and gesture of love. He has suffered a lot in his young life.

  • Malaga – Older is Gold – Podenco Andaluz waiting forever

Podenco Annie 250 10 11 2015This is an appeal for forever homes for a couple of deserving podencos who have been waiting far too long for their families. They are both in Malaga, Spain, in the Old for Gold group on facebook. Please give them a chance. Anne explains

    ANNIE
Annie was brought to us by the Guardia Civil. She was very emaciated and the soles of her feet were completely worn. Her feet really hurt her a lot. She had been reserved very soon after her arrival by someone who wanted to adopt her but then she turned out to be leishmaniasis positive and the people did not want her any more.

Fortunately Annie does not have any symptoms. Annie is already an older lady who we
think was born in 2004.It is time for her to find some real happiness after living a very rough life.

  • Victims of the thunderstorms hitting southern Spain – seeking refuge at Pepis

Galga podenco pod 250 1 11 2015This little podenca was found sheltering from the thunderstorms at the gates of Pepis Dog Refuge, along with the galga. Both cold and wet, Jane and Alan took them in, dried them off and settled them for the night. The hunter had cut the chip out of the galga’s neck before dumping her.

Both hounds need vet checking, vaccinations etc as well as feeding, just 2 more to add to the 70+ dogs at the refuge. Please help feed them, every penny/euro/dollar goes to he dogs. Donate to pepis.dogrefuge@hotmail.co.uk.

And to make matters worse, the torrential rain has meant that the 4×4 cannot make it up the drive to the Galgo centre and Jane and Alan’s mobile home. So Alan has to drag the gas bottle up!

  • November 2015 – Domestic Violence Awareness Month – linked to Animal Abuse

PAES Dr Nuria 250Dr Nuria Querol i Vinas spoke at the PAES conference on the subject of Animal Abuse and Interpersonal Violence and often it can also be linked with psychological problems too – abusers will maltreat those weaker than themselves. Abusers may use animals as a lever in situations where a woman (and children) have escaped him (it’s usually a man in Spain) and they are threatened – if you don’t return, I will kill your dog/cat.
