Anna Parkes wrote this story about her stunning Podenco X Hobo, another one rescued from Spain and now living a life of luxury in the UK.
‘I spent a week with an animal rescue charity named the ‘Asociacion de Animales de Berja‘ back in March 2013, ever since I have been following their progress over Facebook. Gradually friends and family members also followed the page, including my boyfriend, Josh. One day in January or February 2015 I awoke to see that he had tagged me in a post on Facebook; a beautiful brindle 6 month old male Podenco had been awaiting for a home since being thrown from a moving car a number of months earlier. He had spent time in foster but he could no longer stay there as they were due to go travelling. Despite multiple pleas for a new home, no one offered him one and the situation was becoming so desperate that the charity were soon left with no option but to send him to a shelter, which they were so keen not to do.
That was when Josh came to me and it was decided that we would foster him with the view of rehoming him if he got along with my picky Spanish mongral. He was driven over from Spain to Essex, England and arrived on the 20th February 2015. He spent the first few hours spent under the table, scared and confused. However after loads of treats, he got the courage to go onto the sofa. My other dog was watching through the gaps in the dog gate; it was soon clear he approved of his new brother.
We slept on the sofa bed that night, our new addition snuggled between the two of us all night. Nearly a year on he still chooses to sleep on the bed, ideally on my side so he can get maximum cuddles with his beloved dad whilst I look on wondering how to slip into bed without disturbing them both.
He is the funniest dog; we laugh multiple times a day at his antics, when he’s happy he’ll leave a bit of his mouth open which is just funny in itself, when he’s not getting his own way he’ll huff!
We’ve never met a dog quite like him, the breed is stunning both inside and out and we’ll definitely be considering another in the future.

Ah he’s beautiful and so is his brother. That’s a lovely story and so wonderful that an unwanted dog has such a fabulous home. Lovely pictures, I can tell that he is a real character! Thank you for sharing your story as it’s nice to read about happy endings.
