Podenco Leo in Valencia – he’s been waiting too long for a family
The Podenca Andaluz comes in 3 sizes, small, medium and large and also smooth or rough haired. The small ones are like my little pod Bebe, 6.5 kg but with the biggest personality – she bosses all the galgos around. She has very cute ways, loves satsumas (got to keep the orange coat!, is small enough for lap cuddles. I can’t imagine life without her…although I never used to like little dogs! Here is a small podenco who has been waiting far too long for his forever home. This is Leo, who came into the PEPA animal charity in October 2015! He is only 7 kilos and is now 6 years old. He is very nervous outside his environment so he needs to go to someone who can bring him on the rest of the way. Please contact Rosemary Macdonald if you have room in your home and heart for this adorable little chap. Don’t let him wait any longer.
The photo below is my Bebe having lap cuddles.

Foster home needed for Desmo
It is always sad that so many people won’t keep an older dog, hunters especially. The dog serves them faithfully for years and then they dump it in a perrera! Karin Behle tells the story of one boy.Desmo (a.k.a. duque) is in the perrera of Valencia. His owner ” doesn’t need an old dog “, that’s why he was ” sorted out “. We’re gonna save Desmo, he’s 10 years old. Desmo is vaccinated and castrated. We’re urgently looking for a foster for him. It is planned that he will travel to Germany on 20th April so Karin is searching for a foster home for him near Valencia, and then she will find a great family for him. Please email her if you can help.

Podenco friends – podencos for adoption
From Bev farmer of Podenco Friends.
‘Everyone has always answered our call to help sharing our podencos for adoption and we have had great success but again we ask for you help. To find homes in Spain for Podencos is limited so we look to other countries and we ask for your help to share their details as much as possible. This is the lifeblood of any rescue unless people are aware we have so many waiting for their forever sofa they will remain here’.
This is a link to all the podencos on fazcebook, Bev again ‘these are some of our ours for adoption we have more that are not ready for their next stage in their lives. We have a number reserved due to leave soon and have some waiting to come to us but have come to a position where we can not accept anymore until some are re-homed we just dont have space to take any more in please hit the share button and lets find these their forever homes. Unless stated all of them have been tested negative for Leishmania, Filaria, Ehlrichia, and anaplasma all are sterilised unless they are puppies. Thank you for your support

Podenco Friends – meet the pups from the trash bin
Do you remember this story in January, 4 tiny puppies dumped in a bag in a rubbish bin, who luckily were found and taken to Podenco Friends. Look at them now! Here’s what Bev Farmer says.‘The three pups Aemas, Onni and Lumi happily playing without a care in the world but it could have been so different for them if they had not been discovered. Wrenched away from their mother 4 pups only a few hours old tied in a plastic bag and thrown in a bin, there was a greater force looking out for them that day and they were saved. The pups came to us a couple of days later and had to be bottled fed never the ideal solution but the best we could give them. Sadly Jalo died a few days after, his little body just not strong enough.
It’s not uncommon to come across pups in this situation especially Podencos as they usually have big litters 10 plus pups. The hunters cull the numbers the day they are born and often it will be the male pups discarded, some will take them to a vet and put to sleep in a humane way. Others won’t put their hand in their pocket and pay, the alternative tie them up in a bag and throw them away in the rubbish. Left there the pups would have died the most horrible death.

A victim of hanging in Almeria?
This poor podenco was found with a terrible neck injury on 14 February, in Almeria. I haven’t been able to find the story but it looks like an attempted hanging. Luckily he is safe, at the vet clinic and his infected neck wounds are being treated.

Lanzarote – 2 podencos taken from their owner
These 2 oldies were taken from their owner and are now in the care of Nuria on Lanzarote. One is 13 years old, having trouble standing through muscle wastage and the other 8. Podencos in Need Scotland (PINS) are hoping to raise funds to pay for their care back to health and hopefully travel to forever homes in Scotland.
