Climbing in the Everest mountain range for the Podencos of Spain!
Esme and her partner are passionate about their adopted podenco Bo to such an extent that they are undertaking climbing one of the mountains in the Everest range.Here’s what Esme says. ‘We will be attempting to summit Kyajo Ri, a rarely climbed, 6,186 meter mountain in the Everest region of Nepal. Kyajo Ri is a mixed medium (rock and ice) technical expedition peak, with many challenges to overcome to reach the summit.
Our trip will start in the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar, we will then spend the next 3.5 weeks acclimatising on the Everest Three High Passes trek to ensure that we are in peak condition for the mountain ahead.

Chained through the mouth, dropped in an empty pool and left to an agonising death!
Many years ago I posted a story about Vidal, a podenco chained through the mouth to a wall in a derelict building and left to die. Luckily he was discovered, rescued, and found a forever home. He is the featured podenco on my Help the Podencos facebook page.Here is the story of 3 podencos this week found in a similar state.
‘On 1st November) animal rights activists were called to an empty old pool by the police. There, there was a sight of horror. 3 podencos were left there. As if it wasn’t bad enough, they three iron and tied to their head so they couldn’t take food or water. They were literally taken to “die” there. On the walls are marks to see where they tried to escape. They didn’t have a chance without help. There is despair in their eyes, they had already given up hope. And worse, the nights are very cold now. We are stunned, speechless, sad and angry. The Podencos need support now.’https://www.facebook.com/groups/171121343593436/

Fundraiser racing galgos in Osuna, Spain – sign the petition before 3rd November!

We asked Brígida Pachón, municipal delegate of Social Welfare, to suspend the competition of Galgos and avoid animal abuse and adopt measures of assistance and improvement of the quality of life of the ursaonenses with functional diversity without twists and turns.
We say no to an act that includes animal abuse (competition of greyhounds and this year hares are rabies because they are sick) and that puts as an excuse the presumed benefit of people with special needs. The City Council of Osuna announced the ninth edition of an event with a supposed end of fundraising for a Center for Horse Therapy and horse-assisted interventions.

Two years of struggle, of love, but above all of survival, Of making possible the impossible and of not admitting, even for a second, an ending other than this one.
A journey in which we traveled many kilometers to bring back our hearts full of love and compassion: full of gratitude for all your efforts, which made it possible for Spirit to be treated in the best hospital in Spain.
Today Spirit lives with Lucia in the Sanctuary where he has found his family: everything we had promised him and that finally, thanks to your help, we have been able to give him.

Podenco Rio completes the Santiago de Compostela route
You may remember I recently published the story of Podenco Rio, found as a stray by a couple walking the Santiago de Compostela route, and who was adopted by them. On 12th October they arrived at their destination, as Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends reports.Team Rio Jennifer Mark and Rio completed the Camino today, as they collected their “Compostela” Jennifer added Rio’s name to it for he was very much part of their journey.
They cycled a lot of the journey with a special back pack to keep Rio in … ‘Im not sure what would be an ideal number of kilometers to walk your dog each day I suppose if depends on their fitness and of course you could not be walking in the high temperatures.

Podenca bids for freedom, pays the ultimate price
From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends.The fate of so many Podencos .. Ruth discovered this poor girl by the road side, a metal chain around her neck; maybe making a run for freedom, she paid the price and lost her life.
Arrangements are being made to collect her. RIP sweet girl, you have gone to a better place
