  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – a tail of 2 podencos

    GRA Oreo 2 350
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria

The story of Oreo – a guardian angel on four legs. On January 18th, we welcomed a special boy to our Rescue Center. A dog with a big heart and a backpack of his past. We named him Oreo.

Oreo’s story begins in a lonely place, in the dry and deserted Campo region of Cartagena. As a young dog, he was dumped there, left without help or hope. He had to survive on his own, looking for food, water and safety. One day, Oreo witnessed something terrible. A young Podenco – also dumped and vulnerable – was attacked and cornered by a group of feral dogs. Oreo, despite his own fears and insecurities, didn’t hesitate for a second. He listened to his heart and came to the dog’s aid. That day, he saved a life.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – update on the recently rescued podenca

    GAR Luna 5 2025 350
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria

We have named the little podenca who recently came into our care Luna. Despite her fragile figure and the tough past she undoubtedly carries with her, she showed herself to be brave and strong when we took her to the vet where she underwent a full check-up. Her weight is still on the low side, but with loving care and the right nutrition, that is only a matter of time. Her ears were carefully cleaned and everything was checked carefully.

Because her immune system is still vulnerable, we decided to only have an identification chip placed today and to take a blood sample. Fortunately, that sample brought good news: Luna tested negative for the most common Mediterranean diseases.

  • Abandoned and starving – rescued by Galgos Rescue Almeria

From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria

On Friday we received a call: could we offer a safe place to a podenca in need. An animal that was wandering around, vulnerable and alone. Of course we couldn’t say no. On Saturday morning the redeeming message arrived: she had been safely captured in the trap. Her hunger turned out to be greater than her fear. And thank goodness, because now she can finally receive the care she had been missing for so long.

What we found broke our hearts. A fragile, thin body, covered in ticks and emaciated by the hard life on the streets. But behind those scared eyes lies a soul that has never given up. We are now giving her all the peace, warmth and love she needs. Next week she will undergo a thorough medical check-up.

  • Urgent donations needed for a badly injured podenco puppy

    Felipe leg 200
Among so many sadness and adversity we have not updated Felipe’s condition, so we have named the podenquito that we rescued last week when we were coming back from the kennel.

Well, after being admitted to the hospital of Puente Genil, Cordoba, and advising us that his paw should be amputated, we decided to ask for advice from our colleagues from Galgos 112, because they unfortunately have very complicated cases and we know that they are also the best veterinarians.

Esther, who is wonderful, helped us get some of the money for Felipe’s expenses.. And we have moved Felipe to one of the clinics at Galgos 112 for a second evaluation.

We are very grateful to the Hospital of Puente Genil as they have taken care of Felipe wonderfully, and we also thank the Aimar Clinic for having welcomed him so lovingly as you can see video“>in the video.

Felipe is still stable. He eats very well. The wound looks very good but it still has no deep sensitivity or flexor reflex.
He is being treated with fluid therapy, anti-inflammatory and antibiotics.

Thanks to, among others, Galgos 112 Ofcial, how wonderful they are.

    Please help with vet fees.

  • Podenco Nyssa – victim of a road accident, left injured and starving – her story so far

    From The Green Olive Association

22nd February – of Olvera, this little dog has been around our town for a few days, yesterday she was run over and as a result one of her paws is injured. We’re trying to get her out of the street but she’s very scared, also we couldn’t make a routine to be able to set up the trap cage outside of our working hours. We ask you, please, not to try to catch it and if you see it in any area, inform us about the place and time, if possible to do it privately via WhatsApp to 637377560 to avoid further harm.

27 February – Neighbors of Olvera, we can’t believe it… Today we wanted to give you the great news that the dog with the injured leg was rescued but the situation is different and we are not believing it, we explain why: These days we have been receiving warnings of a podenca with an injured leg in different areas of Olvera, as we have been able, in the free hours we have done routine and also counting on some warnings from neighbors as well. Yesterday after 6 hours of rescue and with a professional rescue team that traveled to Olvera we managed to rescue her!

  • Podenco Orisis – saved from death on the street

Osiris – safe with Rescata Animal Granada

They brought him to the shelter on Monday and we didn’t know he would be so serious… last night he took Faunia urgently seeing that he did not get up, that he was apathetic and with many wounds.

We are ALL responsible when we see an animal like this on the street day after day… You don’t save a dog in dust by taking it to a shelter. He is in his bones, dehydrated, malnourished and has severe anaemia, that look breaks your heart and knowing that he would die alone in some corner of that town, thanking on the other hand the person who brought him.

  • Podenco badly injured caught in an illegal snare!

    Luz snared 2 2025 400
The Gift of Kings: Delivered from a Slow and Sure Death. This is how this podenca was rescued, with an anchored strain, illegal and quite dangerous, it destroyed its leg.

She’s been every Christmas a slave to human evil,….. her malnutrition and the state of the cachexic reflects it.
Let’s call her LUZ (LIGHT), because we need a ray of Light in the face of so much evil, passivity and indifference.

From Huella de Jaén we’re going to help her, WE THANK the State Security Forces for the intervention and that there is JUSTICE.

We continue with her cures to save her leg. Let’s hope for Justice, to finally end those illegal practices that still exist, leaving many mutilations to innocent beings.
