  • Podencos and cats – compatible?

Fada with cat Mieke Coryn 250 22 2 2014This beautiful photo is of Podenca Canario Fada from Tenerife and in foster with Mieke Coryn in Belgium. Just proving that some podencos can live with cats.

She’s underweight at the moment, Mieke says ‘she was found on the streets with a wounded leg and those people took care of her for 2 weeks. But she was tied with a chain on their balcony because they weren’t allowed animals. After that the organisation took over and she was spayed and stayed at the pension for a few weeks until her flight here.’

Fada will soon gain weight now she is in foster receiving regular meals and love.

If anyone is interested in applying to adopt Fada and offer her a forever home, there is a form to complete on the website Sighthounds2Save – it’s in Flemish/Dutch but your computer may have the option to translate into English – mine does.

  • Podencos off leash – Dog Parks in Germany

I came across this video, of particular interest because it begins with podencos and a cat happily together in a home and moves on to podencos running free off leash. I don’t speak German but have now got a translation of the story on the video.

Frans Kamps Jeannette Meijer 150 1 2014Please share. (copied from a facebook page) Previous warning

Frans Kamps. Don’t give dogs to this man. He is again looking for female dodgs pretending he wants to adopt to give a good home. However, he asbuses the dogs sexually and then kills them. He has already been in court but the punishment did not fit the crime. He is now out there again looking for dogs. Take care and don’t forget his face.

  • MY DOGS LIVE HERE

Posted on my facebook page, No author’s name.

My dogs live here; they’re here to stay.
You don’t like pets, be on your way.
They share my home, my food, my space.
This is their home, this is their place.

You will find dog hair on the floor,
They will alert you’re at the door.
They may request a little pat,
A simple “no” will settle that.

  • Living with Leishmania – a podenco’s story

Livia in the perrera head 250 2012 2Livia’s Journey through Leishmaniasis and what I learned along the way

    by Anne O’Connor

Livia came from a perrera in Zaragoza, in the north of Spain. The photo here was of her there in February 2012. She looked like a small old little lady who had had a very hard life. She had what looked like a touch of mange and conjunctivitis, but nothing in the way of illness that I felt I couldn’t handle. Her face was tired, she was the little lonely dog in the corner. Looking at her I knew that I could give her the life she deserved.

However Livia’s blood tests revealed that she was in fact suffering from Leishmaniasis.

  • Hind leg dew claws – what to do about them

Bev Ray socks 250One of the podencos recently rescued from Valencia perrera is Ray, a rough-haired boy who is now in foster with Bev Farmer. He was recently castrated and, at the same time, his rear dew claws removed.

I’ve lived with all types of dogs all my life and been in involved in the rescue of a few hundred, especially from Spain, and I’ve not come across a dog with rear dew claws. So I asked Bev about it and also found this information on the Internet.
