Podenca Chokla – respecter of cats!
Amaliah lives in Holland and is passionate about podencos. Here is her story.
‘In 1990 I had already 2 Podencos, only the situation was completely different from my current one.
I was living in a very small village, my first neighbour was a 15 minutes walk away so, as you can imagine, I had a lot of meadow myself and a lot ofland nearby.
My husband didn’t like the dogs into our home……yes a big shame……… so the dogs lived in their own house, (with central heating!), there were six all together:

Finland – sending a rescue dog for rehoming – consider very seriously before sending it
Many podencos, galgos and greyhounds (from Ireland) are adopted in Norway and Sweden without a problem. However Finland is further north. I am disturbed by the news that a podenco from Galgos del Sur went to Finland for adoption believing there was no problem for the podenco – the Finnish authorities are being very difficult about it, and the podenco is not allowed to be rehomed. The podenco is still in Finland whilst an association tries to rehome him. (Bloody bureacrats!) So, anyone wanting to know more about the problems for importing a rescued dog to Finland for adoption, here are some links.

Training a Podenco
Podencos come in many shapes and sizes, from the little Podenco Erbano and Maneto to the big Podenco Campanero, with several different types in between!
But they all have one thing in common, a real zest for life, no matter what hardships they have suffered in their previous life before rescue.
