  • Podenca Milagro – is there a home for her in Belgium or France?

    Milagro head 400 8 11 2017
Milagro is a female podenca, aged 13 years who several years ago was rescued from a perrera. SOS Podenca Rescue Belgium & France are looking for an adoption or long term foster. She is negative for Mediterranean diseases.

Unfortunately Milagro is not ok other animals, or children (-12 years), so the ideal home for rhis granny would be a couple of retired people with a big garden and a place to isolate her when children are visiting

Let’s not let her finish her life alone in a kennel. A fairy godmother has volunteered to pay for her trip to the home where she can spend the rest of her life.

Is there anyone who will love her and allow her to spend the rest of her life in dignity and safety? All veterinary charges are supported by the association.

    Contact SOS Podenco Rescue

  • The Podencos of Lanzarote by Val Patterson

I'm a podenco lover 400Since starting my galgo and podenco blogs 10 years ago, I have continuously appealed for help for the Canary Islands podencos. In the last three or 4 years, many more people have now responded to their plight, helped a great deal by publicity on facebook (one of the plus side of facebook). Val Patterson has now put together this lovely video and song. Please share and publicise the plight of the podencos in the Canary Islands.

  • Saved from death – Spain’s volunteers on the frontline again

Jacky tanamera 3 tinies 4004 weeks ago I received an appeal for help on my Help The Podencos facebook page, from a young woman who had found two 15-day old podenco puppies abandoned, no sign of mother, she could have been stolen or killed. We appealed for someone to take them in – they would need regular bottle feeds to save them – and Jacky Hazeleger of Tanamera Rescue stepped in.

Here’s the update from Jacky. She works tirelessly to save, foster and rehome many of Spain’s unwanted podencos, so if you can spare a little towards the cost of vaccinations etc for these two boys, she will be very grateful. Paypal address below.

‘Just letting you all know that Russell and Pablo, rescued from Canals 4 weeks ago are doing great. We had a bit of a struggle, but both are now healthy and happy. In two weeks they will need their first jabs, and more after ofcourse. Any little help for these fighters by paypal would be highly appreciated xxx paypal: tanamerajavea@gmail.com

    Thanks, Jacky from Tanamera Rescue

  • Saving the Gran Canaria podencos

Gran Canaria 400 22 9 2017As I wrote earlier in the week, for several years I’ve been plugging away publicising about the podencos in the Canary Islands who suffer terrible abuse and whose only hope for forever lives is to be rehomed on mainland Europe. Another association now helping the Gran Canaria podencos is Hope for Podencos and you can read about their work on this link.

    Last Hope for Podencos
…adopt from an association, not a perrera

Sadly there is no good news about the 90 podencos near Mogan, still caged, starved and dying. Local volunteers are still working with the local authorities but making little progress. That’s the problem when those in authority are also probably hunters!

  • Podenca Canario Sansha waiting for her forever home

Bev Sansha GC 400 6 10 2017Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends is also helping the Gran Canaria podencos.

Bev says, ‘This is Sansha one of the GC podencos rescued from the terrible building where they were left chained up 24/7 and they waited so long to be saved. Although very underweight and lacking muscle tone when she first arrived with us, mentally the ordeal does not seem to have affected her. A very happy and outgoing character who has a great sense of fun and now is ready for adoption. She is 2 years old, 62cm to the shoulder and 16 kilos. For more information about Sansha please email us: podencofriends@hotmail.co.uk

  • From Lanzarote perrera to comfort and love in Norway

Bev Athena Lanzarote 1 400I’ve been publicising about the plight of the podencos in the Canary Islands for several years now. At that time SARA Protectora on Lanzarote worked hard to home some, both in Germany and the UK. The first story I published was about Rick and Lesley Beauchamp who help home rescued Lanzarote podencos in the UK. I’ve plugged and plugged away to try and get more help for these fabulous hounds, both from Lanzarote and Gran Canaria and finally in the last couple of years, people are coming forward to help the volunteers on the Islands struggling to save the podencos, most of which end up in perreras.

Bev and Warren of Podenco Friends now help foster and home podencos from both Islands. This stunning podenca is Athena, saved from the perrera by Laura Johnson of TheKennelKlub on Lanzarote and flown to Bev in Murcia. She has just arrived in her forever home in Norway. These are the before and after photos.

If you want to read more about Rick’s journey to the UK, here’s Part 2 and Part 3
