  • Podenco Joshua – injuries which no dog should suffer

    I don’t know what caused the injuries to this poor podenco – have asked – but here is the post from my Podenco Post facebook page. (I’m guessing probably dragged along a tarmac road)

    Joshua has been evolving favourably and now what he most needs is a home to keep recovering inside and out.

    No one has called to help him, that more than anything else gives us sadness, because he needs it so much, because we already knew his appearance would not help him, because he is a podenquito among another hundred thousand podenquitos that there are, because sometimes only important.

  • Podenco Sparky – urgently needs an understanding forever home

    An appeal for a special forever home for this young podenco who desperately now needs a patient loving forever home to continue his education that there are kind people in this world who can bring out what is probably a very loving character.

    From the team at Dog City Residentia. ‘Sparky. Podenco born in April 2015. We don’t know what this little one will have lived through or suffered before reaching us but what we do know living with him daily is that he is very elusive, distant, without wanting to have human contact… Just wants to be invisible, put his head underground and disappear. But we will not let him live like this, we will not allow him to miss the opportunity to enjoy a family life with the warmth of a home, we will fight to realize that the future could look wonderful tomorrow if you let us show you.

  • Podencos on Lanzarote with TheKennelKlub

    Read all about TheKennelKlub and if you go to Lanzarote, do look them up. Remember that the only hope of a forever home for the podencos is on mainland Europe and the US/Canada.

  • Bev Farmer – remembering Warren

    ‘Three weeks ago my life changed forever and it all feels surreal and I think that Warren has gone out and will be coming back and I miss him so much and so the dogs they keep looking at me for answers. He would have hated that he has left me with everything to sort out but thankfully he will never know for he died in his sleep. I never told him enough times I loved him or appreciated all the hard work he did but I loved taking photos of him with the dogs and it was my way of saying we are a team and I couldn’t do this without you.

    I hold on to the last day we spent together it was a lovely warm winters day in Spain and we spent most of the day out in the paddocks with the dogs . It was just one of those rare days that felt so relaxed and lots of laughter and in the evening he cooked me one of my favourite dinners, a quiet night in watching a film and surrounded by the dogs, just content in each others company, everything to look forward to and now that has all gone.

  • Meet the Breed – Ibizan Hounds in the US

    ‘Meet and Greet’ has long been popular in the US to introduce people to the Galgo. Now we have ‘Meet the Breed’ for the podencos. Wonderful idea.

    ‘Three cheers for all the folks in Orlando, Florida in December who were part of the “Meet the Breed” booth, letting the public meet and learn about Podencos.

    Education is where it all starts!’

  • Podenca Leila hoping for a forever home.

    Leila’s case is very sad, she appeared abandoned with her skin in very bad condition. She has spent a long time in the protectora waiting for a forever family. She is in foster receiving treatment for her allergy but there are a lot of dogs in the house and she really needs a place of her own. It’s not fair for a podenca who is so incredibly good, cheerful and educated, so if you’re looking for a bitch that will give you lots of love, and who would love to be pampered and have a friend for life, adopt Leila.

  • Male Portuguese Podengos looking for forever homes

    A couple of days ago I published some beautiful female Portuguese Podengos looking for forever homes. These are the male Portuguese podengos at the same shelter, run by friends of Jackie Dias, 30 minutes from Porto. The males are neutered and completing their vaccination programmes. They will eventually be microchipped and get an EU Pet Passport.

    Information for adoptees outside of Portugal on how the best way they can ship a dog to a foreign country can be given.

    Introducing DICK – (pic above) Male Podengo and very handsome – a true podengo with the bat-like ears! He also has a great temperament. He suffered a lot at the hands of hunters and eventually it is thought that after losing his scent on a hunt he got lost and was found hungry and thirsty. He is looking for a forever home.

  • Female Portuguese Podengos looking for forever homes

    Jackie Dias lives in Portugal and has a couple of friends who run a small shelter in the north around 30 mins drive from Porto. Many of their dogs are Portuguese Podengos which are now on their way to being fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped when the adoption process takes place.

    Buzz was dragged away from his mum and chucked away like rubbish! This gorgeous boy was born around 15 October and is so adorable. Likely to be small/medium when fully grown.

    Axarquia Animal Rescue at Torre del Mar have an assortment of hounds at their shelter, including podencos and podenco X. You will see 4 on this page. You’ve already seen Rani’s Christmas wish a few days ago. He’s just one of several waiting for forever homes.

    Last year I bought a copy of their calendar containing the most delightful sketch pictures of animals in their care, one for each day. And the squares are big enough to write in those important diary dates – a must for me! So here are a couple of pix from their 2019 Calendar and you can order a copy – only 5 euros each plus postage so a real bargain for such a good quality product – on this email.
