  • Podenco Ruso – from hell at the hands of a hunter to heaven in a loving home

    Ruso 1 400
A heartwarming rehoming story from Vivien.

‘I heard about the plight of the Podenco’s on Podenco Post in 2012. On it was a article about a Podenco called Ruso. He had been rescued from a hunter where he had been kept in a cage since he was a puppy. He was badly abused, starving and ill when he was found. He had been rejected as a hunting dog as he was no good at hunting so he was left to die.

When I saw Ruso on Podenco post I sent an email to a lady called Ainhoa who helps a wonderful lady in Seville called Inmaculada agomez Gonzalez who rescues Podencos and Galgos from a gipsy settlement.
Because she did not speak any English I was only contacted by Ainhoa who arranged Ruso’s transport to the UK with SOS podencos.

Sadly since having been brought back to health Ruso was still in kennels with no one showing any interest in him. We decided to foster him.

He arrived in the UK from his long journey from Spain, we first saw him being taken out of the van and he looked so frightened and cowered when placed on the ground.

  • Axarquia Animal Rescue – podenco for adoption

    Axarquia Minnie 400 1 4 2019
Hey there! I’m Minnie the Pod!

I’m a cool and street wise little girl as me and my bestie Scooby were on the streets until some nice people came to catch us. Well it took them some time, because we didn’t know that nice people exist you see, so we ran away from them…

My pal Scooby was taken to safety first and then the next day they came to find me too, can you imagine the happiness when we were reunited in this wonderful kennel of happy dogs. Now we are getting love, care and good food.

Soon I’m going to be healed and I have started dreaming of a real home and family… Someone who would love me forever like I would… Never again throw me on the street.

Are you there somewhere? Please look me up at AAR and ask Marja who is taking care of my adoption.

  • Galgos France save Broken

    Galgos France logo 400
Here is the story of a podenco saved by Galgos France. (photos on this weblink)

‘The Adaana shelter, partner of our association, took charge of Broken, a podenca of barely 1 year old. She was in such pain that she could not get up to take care of herself: she was urinating and defecating on herself.

She underwent an old dislocation of the hip and sacroiliac. She underwent surgery to connect the ileum (part of the small intestine) and the sacrum. She has been operated on for a radio-ulnar fracture. She had to have an enema because the hip bone was squeezing the intestine and blocking the pelvic canal. She has evacuated bones and teeth … She is hospitalized for at least 15 days.
