  • Protectora La Bienvenida, Cuidad Real – Podenca Avena looking for a forever home

    La Bienvenida Avena 400 8 2019
Back in 2007 my first rescue trip with French association L’Europe des Levriers was to Cuidad Real, 200 km south of Madride and to the Protectora La Bienvenida, where I met my first galga Karmel to bring home. The shelter is still working hard to help the abandoned and maltreated animals of the area – especially it is not a good area for galgos. And they have some podencos, here is one of them waiting for her forever home. I have translated the first paragraph from Spanish, if you wish to read more, copy and paste into a Spanish to English translator, which is what I do.

Avena and Muesli are two ultra nice podenquitas. Probably, Avena became pregnant in the first heat and Muesli is the result of it. It is rare that only a puppy has arrived which makes us think that the rest have been distributed and for them, nobody asked or there was no more space for what they were thrown into the street.’

You will find some more podencos as you scross through the rest of the pages.

  • Refugio Kimba in Cadiz – the oldest Animal Protective in Spain

    Refugio Kimba Pinky 400
(Pinky) The Protective Society of Animals and Plants of Cádiz, better known as “Kimba Shelter”, was founded in 1872 and is therefore the oldest Animal Protective in Spain.

Although in its origins the protection of the plants was mainly its exclusive purpose, finally and in 1966 the refuge was created that would house the abandoned animals.

Since then the work that has been developing this Protective, includes different paths but always aimed at the same purpose … the defense and protection of animals.

Here are some of the beautiful podencos waiting for forever homes – don’t let them be Invisible forever. Contact Refugio Kimba

  • Podenco Friends – HINGA FOR ADOPTION IN THE UK

    Bev Hinga 400 12 8 2019
    From Bev Farmer.

‘The first photo is where we rescued Hinga from in Gran Canary that was her life chained to a wall with green rancid water and little food. She is 5 years old and before been rescued she lived in a darken building in temperatures over a 100ºf along with 5 other Podencos. Her past life has left Hinga with concerns about meeting new people especially men and nervous about new situations. However once in a settled routine she is quite a lovely podenco who is happy to just curl up and sleep in her bed, play with her toys, being a typical pod counter surfaces, tea leaf, don’t leave shoes around, and loves going for long walks.

She has been in foster in the UK for a few months and she is doing really well, just been on a camping holiday.

  • Tilly – the life-changing podenca – don’t forget the oldies

Bev Tilly back in 2003 when rescued 400
I first met podencos when I travelled to Spain in 2007 with a French rescue association L’Europe des Levriers, and that’s when I got involved in publicising what fabulous hounds they are and the terrible maltreatment they suffer at the hands of the Spanish hunters, both on mainland Spain and the Canary and Balearic Islands. Here Bev Farmer writes about the podenca which changed her life.

‘This photo is of Tilly back in 2003 when we first adopted her from a local rescue here in Spain, what was a podenco? I had no clue but I leaned very quickly and to say she tested me is an understatement. I considered myself an experienced dog owner, having dogs my whole life and Dobermans for over 20 years but everything I knew about dogs I threw in the bin and started from scratch with her.

These two beautiful baby boys were brought to podenco sos by the police. They are both needing homes. Please don’t let them grow up in the kennels. If you could offer a loving home please get in touch. They are about 4 months old and won’t be very big when fully grown Difficult to photo they wouldn’t keep still and one was loving having his tummy tickled.

(Although it says podenco sos in the note I copied from facebook, SOS Podenco Rescue says they do not have the puppies.)

  • 2 Podenco puppies in Valencia perrera…

    Karen black podenco pup 400 7 2019
Spanish hunters hold life cheap…they care not how many puppies are bred, just to be thrown aside. these 2 puppies are in perreras – luckily not all perreras are quick to kill stations – some will hold dogs for a while. Keep your fingers crossed for these 2 babies.

Micha, black podenco, male, 9 months, 14 kilos, is still sitting in the killing of Valencia. How can it be that no one is reporting for this cute mouse? Shall he die at 9 months? We are looking for Micha a foster home from 24.08.2019-gladly also foster with option on adoption or adoption. He is social with all the dogs. We haven’t been able to check it out with cats yet He’s not afraid. Please send me a personal message. Club: Avpdogs.
