2019 Summary – What a year 2019 was for Hope for Podencos and the extremes of weather that we experienced. Summer saw high heats and a lot of hard work to keep the dogs cool and hydrated. Heavy autumn rains luckily didn’t hit us as hard as other parts of Spain; but we helped some dogs that were affected in these areas.
Winter is always a difficult time at the centre. Many people associate Spain with sunshine but it is in fact freezing cold. Luckily our supporters did an amazing job in raising funds to get the dogs kitted out in cozy jumpers.
Renovation work took off at the centre, allowing us to help more dogs than ever before. We saw new kennels blocks built and old kennels and runs pulled down and new runs put up in their place. As a result, we saw an amazing 120 podencos rescued; compared to the 91 we were able to help in 2018.
2020 Plans – We have lots of exciting plans in store for 2020 too; with the first project we want to complete being new puppy kennels. We can’t currently take in any more pups as our quarantines are full – so this improvement will be well utilised.
These will be fully insulated against the summer heat and the winter drops in temperature and the inside will have underfloor heating. The pictures below show what we hope to achieve and where we are at with our fund raising for this particular project.
