  • Podenco Felix – one month on after rescue

    Bev Fellix 3 2020 400
At the end of January I posted a story about a young podenco found starving at the roadside, taken into care with Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends. He was named Felix.

Here’s what Bev says about him now. ‘One month ago Felix was a broken, scared and very thin Podenco pup abandoned and all alone in the campo. Some loving care and good nutrition, today he is a happy loving full of fun dog.’

  • Protectora Scooby Palencia – sweet podenca now safe

    Scooby Palencia podenca 400 1 2 2020
The abandonment of hunting dogs is never ending. Thank goodness for the rescue and rehoming associations. And one of the largest is Scooby. This sweet young podenca is now safe with Protectora Scooby Palencia.

‘This beautiful podenquita had to take a bath just after arriving at the shelter. We do not know where she has been living but gave off an unbearable smell of manure. Although in the pics it is not appreciated, she’s quite thin and has problems of skin and mouth. The poor girl is quite scared but we trust that little by little she will gain confidence and so that a new and happy life can begin soon.

  • News from Hope for Podencos

2019 Summary – What a year 2019 was for Hope for Podencos and the extremes of weather that we experienced. Summer saw high heats and a lot of hard work to keep the dogs cool and hydrated. Heavy autumn rains luckily didn’t hit us as hard as other parts of Spain; but we helped some dogs that were affected in these areas.

Winter is always a difficult time at the centre. Many people associate Spain with sunshine but it is in fact freezing cold. Luckily our supporters did an amazing job in raising funds to get the dogs kitted out in cozy jumpers.

Renovation work took off at the centre, allowing us to help more dogs than ever before. We saw new kennels blocks built and old kennels and runs pulled down and new runs put up in their place. As a result, we saw an amazing 120 podencos rescued; compared to the 91 we were able to help in 2018.

  • Podenca Peaches waiting and waiting forever

    Lynn Judge Peaches 400 12 2019
Podenca Peaches is a Spanishdeathrowdogz dog, rescued from the kill list in a perrera

‘It’s me! Peaches, why does nobody love me enough to share their home with me? I’m a lovely sweet girl who has had a horrible past, when the ladies found me I had a huge hernia, I was in a lot of pain, but now I’m fine, I just need that elusive home. I’m a sweet, friendly girl, in fact I quite like men, very unusual here in Spain. I’ve been waiting for such a long time for my furever home, I wonder if it’s ever going to come. Please share so lots of people see me, it only takes one person to fall in love with me and my life could be changed in an instant. I will come with an adoption contract, passport, spayed and vaccinated. What’s not to love?’

Contact Lynn Judge if you have room in your home and heart for her.
