Poor dogs. They try their best for their masters – and mistresses – and are rewarded by being dumped – anywhere – busy roads, down wells, on the campo with broken legs, in the killing stations. Killing stations – barking dogs, stressed dogs, some of the worst perreras don’t believe in feeding dogs to be killed, water is green – I’ve the reports and photos on my weblogs. Podenca Andaluz rescued off the streets – foster and adoption needed
This little podenca was rescued off the street and put in a garage with about 10 other dogs. She is heavily pregnant. She is now in a mini-refuge where she is receiving good care but she´s getting fat everyday and she will be sterilized when the problem of the puppies is over. Gran Canaria Winter Sun Holidays – Roque Nublo nightlife
Gran Canaria for winter sun holidays! Great! So long as you close your eyes to all the abandoned dogs and cats roaming the Island. These three podenca bitches have been in the camping/picnic area near Roque Nublo since November. The only survive on what they can retrieve from the visitors. A concentrated effort is being made to catch them but, as you can imagine, after all this time, it won’t be easy. TARA shelter on Gran Canaria sent the news. I’ve asked them to let me know if the podencas are caught. And if you go on holiday to Gran Canaria, go and see the shelter at Mogan, they are always pleased to see people interested in their work.

Podenca Andaluz Lucy – abandoned in Malaga, forever in Holland
Little Podenca Andaluz Lucy was rescued by Susanna from the side of a railway track. She suffered serious injury from being attacked by a larger dog, but has made a marvellous recovery, thanks to the work of 112carlotagalgos and Paco, their vet. Podencoworld in Holland had an offer of a foster home for Lucy and on 25th January, Lucy and four other lucky podencos flew from Malaga airport to Holland. Because Lucy only weight 8 kilos, she went as ‘hand luggage’!

Holidays in Canary Islands? SARA Lanzarote needs your help
SARA Lanzarote (Canary Islands) have sent this story about this podenca bitch, yet another of life’s victims discarded by the hunters. Podencos are used on the Spanish islands for hunting rabbit, and suffer horrendous cruelty at the hands of the hunters, just like the galgos and podencos on mainland Spain. The only hope for the deserving dogs in the shelters on Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Ibiza, is to be adopted on the European mainland. Please bear them in mind when considering offering a forever home to a dog. Otherwise these dogs will spend their lives in the shelters.

URGENT- young podencas on death row, Rioja, Logorno, 21 Jan is ‘die day’.
This appeal was sent out today (20.1.2012). I am not sure if the dogs have had a reprieve, I think they may be killed tomorrow 21/1, rather than 19/1. So I’m sending out the appeal for help for them. A Kennel or foster home urgently needed so they can be got out. We’re talking about Rioja and Logrono immediately.
Dora is a small young podenca, nervous, hasn’t known affection. When she advances, she is very sweet, just needs a loving home to be a star.
Moka (below) is another young female podenca. She is skinny, her eyes are fearful, she doesn’t trust. And yet, if she could be rescued now, she will bloom, put on weight and her coat will shine. She will show the joy of life she deserves.

Valencia Podenco Andaluz puppy, rescued injured & starving – can you take him into your heart and home?
Look at this cute little podenco, less than a year old, found wandering through a ravine with a broken tail and a femur fracture of a hind leg. The leg hung loose, like a rag doll’s leg. He was a skeleton, totally malnourished, with a sore eye and bore injuries on his nose and neck. He’s been called Aradio by his saviours.
The vet says Aradio has wandered for weeks with his leg dangling, possibly hit by a car. Understandably he was very scared of being caught but couldn’t run far with his injured leg.
