  • Huesca perrera – dozens of podencos hoping for a home

Huesca perrera Katy 1 yr 250 2 2012Huesca is a small city in north eastern Spain, in the province of Aragon. It’s not a province with galgo hunting, rather hunting with podencos. If you don’t know the podenco breed, then read all about them, and the different types, on Podenco Post.

Like the galgos, podencos are not a breed which are often adopted by the Spanish but, also like the galgos, they make fabulous companion dogs. There are dozens of them in the Perrera of Huesca, waiting to find out what life has in store for them. The photos are on Facebook, for those of you who use Facebook The person to contact at the perrera is the vet, joseabarca@internacionalplayers.comand the person you have to talk to if you want to know something about the dogs and if you want to reserve any. There are a lot of podencos there who need help. Here are somebetween 6 – 12 months old.

  • Seprona on the war path in Cadiz – hindering, not helping!

Happy Endings Chiclana 250Happy Ending Final-Feliz in Chiclana, Cadiz, have had their problems in the past, with authorities being awkward! All the charity want to do is help the abandoned dogs in the area, get them off the streets, look after them, rehome them. Something the authorities should do.

Now, on 18th February, there’s this news from the association. And it’s not the first time I received a report of Seprona putting pressure on the people doing their job!

‘PLEASE SHARE THIS POST! WE NEEDYOUR HELP! It has been an eventful week down at the kennels. We have had a visit from Seprona (Servicio de Protección de la Naturaleza – OR – Nature Protection Services). They have informed us that, unknown to us we are not complying with certain regulations laid down by the authorities.

  • Malaga – walking the streets in Protest!

Malaga protest group 1 250 2 2012Traffic in Malaga was today brought to a standstill when animal lovers in Andalucia took to the streets to protest about animal cruelty in Spain and in particular the plight of the galgos at the hands of the hunters. It’s at this time of year that the galgueros get rid of their dogs – upwards of 50,000 every year. The protestors wore black, many of the dogs wore black collars and scarves. Well done, everyone. • Malaga – Podenca Ana seeks your help

Ana 3 Charl 250 1 2012Do you remember the story of Ana, the podenca near Valencia, with a badly injured hind leg and who was so distrustful of humans that it took nearly 3 months to catch her. During that time she had some pups – who are in foster – and is now safe with 112carlotagalgos.

Ana’s problems were not over after she was caught. Vet Paco examined her injured leg and pronounced it too damaged to repair, then she caught an infection, and now she has had to have surgery to remove her leg. But not to worry, 3-legged amputees can run as fast as 4-legged if they want to! Charl tells Ana’s story so far.
