  • The Heartbreak for the Spanish Podencos

Cuidad Perrera 1 250I always promote adopting a podenco – or any dog – from a recognised rescue association. But I’m posting this to show you how heartbreaking it is, opening my Inbox to appeals like this…every day appeals to help save podencos on death row in perreras; recently many of them have been small puppies. Such a sickening and unnecessary waste of beautiful lives, just because the
bastard galgueros keep breeding and breeding…

There are 13 on death row in the perrera in Ciudad Real (where my first galga Karmel was saved from). Here is the appeal to save them.

These 13 podencos are on death row in Perrera de Valdepeñas, Ciudad Real (Central Spain). The need urgent help, as new dogs keep entering the pound every week and it’s full!

Some of them are old and some of them really young. All of them are scared to death and having a really tough time in there!

  • Breach of copyright

It has been drawn to my attention that an extract from my book From Pyramid to Perrera has been posted on SOS Podenco Rescue and The Pod People on facebook.

Kindly note this is in direct breach of copyright. No permission was sought for any extract from my book to be used in any form as clearly stated at the beginning of my book. No credit is given to my book, the source of the piece Characteristics of a Podenco is not stated. Whilst I do not have the funds to sue the perpetrator on both her fb pages, it should be noted that this is a gross contravention of copyright issues about which the perpetrator doesn’t give a damn!

Whilst my information in the article is accurate, the perpetrator on occasion posts misleading information about podencos and people should not believe all she writes by her own hand.

  • FBI considers animal abuse as a crime alongside murders

Should happen in every country. Animal abusers generally go on to abuse and murder humans. They practice on animals first.

  • Fuzzy – Portuguese Podengo needs his forever home

Here is Fuzzy, a gorgeous young Portuguese Podenco with Dogs of Portugal. Read all about him here, see videos of him. Such a sweet boy. Surely there is a forever sofa and family for him.

  • Tango – the perfect dog waiting for ever for his forever home

KennelKlub Tango 250 6 4 2015TANGO is an incredible dog waiting for a home. He has been waiting patiently for 6 months. Not only is he super handsome he has a fabulous personality. He is extra specially cuddly, intelligent and obedient.

He has done a 6 week basic training course and surprised us all at how well he did! Whoever adopts Tango will be very lucky indeed! He is around 5 years old and a Podenco/Galgo cross. He is in Lanzarote but transport can be arranged for the right home.

Fabulous video of the lovely TANGO at training classes. He is doing so well and we are SUPER proud of him! This gorgeous Podenco/Galgo cross is a great dog, attentive, obedient and always eager to please. He is a cuddle monster!

  • Spanish animal rescue association – changing people’s minds

Interesting article. Another example of how the Spanish are working on trying to change people’s attitude towards animal cruelty and neglect.

  • Canary Islands – holiday destination or hell?

Tell everyone what life is REALLY like on the Canary Islands – all of them, even the smallest island – for podencos. Please don’t turn away, your sorrow is nothing compared to the suffering of these hounds. If you want to help, get in touch with any of the associations on this list – they need all the help they can get.

  • Journey to Scooby, Medina del Campo – a volunteer reports

Great read about volunteers at Scooby in March, especially to learn that all the podencos they rescued recently are either in foster or adoptant homes. Do think about taking a ‘holiday’ and volunteering at Scooby. Besides the hotel mentioned in the report, Scooby also offer caravan accommodation. And don’t forget, Scooby have hundreds of animals for adoption – dogs, cats, ferrets, horses, donkeys, poultry…
