Do you remember this story in January, 4 tiny puppies dumped in a bag in a rubbish bin, who luckily were found and taken to Podenco Friends. Look at them now! Here’s what Bev Farmer says.
‘The three pups Aemas, Onni and Lumi happily playing without a care in the world but it could have been so different for them if they had not been discovered. Wrenched away from their mother 4 pups only a few hours old tied in a plastic bag and thrown in a bin, there was a greater force looking out for them that day and they were saved. The pups came to us a couple of days later and had to be bottled fed never the ideal solution but the best we could give them. Sadly Jalo died a few days after, his little body just not strong enough.
It’s not uncommon to come across pups in this situation especially Podencos as they usually have big litters 10 plus pups. The hunters cull the numbers the day they are born and often it will be the male pups discarded, some will take them to a vet and put to sleep in a humane way. Others won’t put their hand in their pocket and pay, the alternative tie them up in a bag and throw them away in the rubbish. Left there the pups would have died the most horrible death.
There is no excuse for this, these are the innocents who didn’t ask to be born, yet again Podenco Friends pick up the pieces. Over time we have rescued over 150 pups, multiply that by the number of rescues in Spain and it’s a major problem that could so easily be avoided. Spay and Neuter we shout but it’s never heeded. So the ever eternal cycle continues. For these 3 pups they are the lucky ones, there will be many more that won’t be discovered, their lives over even before they have began.’
