Besides posting pieces on my blogs, I do a lot of work for the galgos and podencos ‘behind the scenes’. In 2013 I was contacted by a professional English photographer who wanted to photograph the galgos and show both sides of their lives, and wanted help in many ways, including some refuges to visit. His book is now nearly complete and I’ve just helped him with finalising a few details in his Introduction.
I’ve been publicising the plight of the podencos for many years; they have always been overlooked in favour of the galgos because of the galgo’s similarity to the Greyhound. NOW I am pleased to announce it is the turn of the podencos and I’m really excited about it!
A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by another photographer who had recently learnt about the plight of the podencos and wanted to photograph them and all aspects of their lives, for a book. So I’ve put him in contact with refuges who can help him with this and he will shortly be heading off to begin his project. Let’s hope the weather is kind to him – at the moment there is torrential rain and flooding in many parts of Spain!
Later in the year, I’m hoping he will also visit the Canary Islands on the same subject.
So long overlooked, the Invisibles have, in the last couple of years suddenly received the publicity and help they desperately needed.
Podenco Power at last!

That’s wonderful news, I hope things change for the ‘invisibles’ the ‘forgotten ones’. I have been having a look at Spanish Stray Dogs UK charity. They are advertising for adoption some beautiful dogs in no kill pounds in Spain. There are some lovely podencos for adoption, all shapes and sizes. If anyone can take a look at ‘Indi’ the podenco and not be moved then they must have a cold heart. I can’t stop thinking about him but there must be thousands and thousands of them out there. I hope this publicity changes this for them.
I had a look its so sad that they are there for so long so many dogs not enough homes the amount of dogs I could take in is unbelievable and that’s just in my city busy at the mo trying to help the council kennels get a place for a lurcher in there give them phone numbers and they ring but every one is full but just checked on my computer as not been able to use since sat got disabled some how that the first rescue I contacted asking if he got place yet I have just answered so hoping she can help him then I found out another one in a girl will see if I can get up there tomorrow to see her fingers x for Charlie the close grey hound rescues I involved with ae full and got greys on waiting lists just in my area its bad and its heart breaking when is the breeding going to be banned
Sadly Kevin has emailed today, he has to postpone his visit next week but plans to go later in the year, and also to the Canary Islands.
