I’ve not been posting appeals to save the hundreds of podencos in perreras because the podencos already saved desperately need forever homes. But I had to tell you about Rania, an 8 month old Podenco Orito puppy on death row in Almeria perrera. The Orito is one of the more unusual type of Podenco, mainly found around Malaga province. You can read more about them on this link. Rania shouldn’t be in the perrera! It will cost 135 euros to buy her out (as she is over 6 months old) and then 90 euros/month for a kennel. The 135 euros includes vaccination and microchip – and spaying, as that is perrera policy. Contact and Paypal a/c sos.almeria@gmail.com
As an extension to this story, I’ll tell you about some comments posted on a facebook thread about my podenco book.
I’ve been publicising my Podenco ebook – just launched – on various facebook pages, I’m pleased to report it is selling well and has been well received. However, on one rescue association facebook page – Podencoworld (Holland) – a couple of women made the following comments
‘my book is rubbish because hunters are not cruel to their podencos, they feed them well, and the podencos in the rescue associations have all been stolen by the rescuers.’
I’m sure you, dear readers, will find those comments as ignorant and pathetic as I did. They are probably hunters themselves, or breeders. Either way, their heads are certainly up their …..!!
I asked that their comments and my response to them be deleted, which they have. Podencoworld have been helping podencos since 2009 and Ed the founder has made valuable contributions to my book.
Still waiting to hear from the printer with the proof copy of the manuscript.

I will make a donation. Re those ignorant people making comments, they will be hunters or breeders, you just know it. It’s like when an article comes out about animals in circuses all the circus folk come out en masse saying how it’s all A OK to keep a tiger/elephant/ bear in a tiny cage and then they describe people who are interested in animal welfare as “nutters”. It’s a standard type of response from ignorant/callous types who are gaining financially from the mistreatment of animals. They want to hoodwink the public with their propaganda. It’s absolute rubbish. Yes of course all hunters treat their dogs wonderfully – NOT!!! That’s why I adopted a half starved galgo, covered in scars, terrifed of arm and leg movements – yes his hunter owner had treated him magnificently – NOT. It’s utter tripe and we all know it, so they can say what they like. Do not let these ignorant, ill informed people get you down. They have their own agenda and if they can live with themselves making these stupid comments while the Spanish dogs are abandoned in their hunderds of thousands, then shame on them. I guess the hunting dogs dogs hanged in the olive groves/thrown down wells/set on fire must be a figment of everyone’s imagination too. Keep on keeping on Beryl – the pods and galgos need you.
