I first became aware of the plight of the podencos in Spain and the Canary Islands back in 2007 when I began my trips to Spain with L’Europe des Levriers to bring galgos and podencos back to France for rehoming. I also took in my first foster podenca at that time, Jazmin. And that’s when my love of podencos began.

Since then I’ve fostered and rehomed podencos as well as galgos and worked hard to publicise their suffering, telling their stories originally on Galgo News and for the past 3 years on Podenco Post.

Over the past year there has been a sudden burst of awareness about their suffering, especially on Facebook and now many people want to help them.

One such person is Alex Frederickson, a writer who lives in Austria, who recently adopted two podencos and now tells her story.
