PEPA, Valencia, Spain – X Podencos hoping for forever homes

Toffee8 PEPA 250 Here’s an appeal from a small animal charity based in Valencia, who are desperately seeking homes for 3 podenco x.

‘My name is Pat Taylor and I’m emailing you on behalf of an animal charity called P.E.P.A. based in the Valencian Community of Spain. We don’t have any kennels, all our animals are placed with foster carers or in small family run kennels. Our website is

Toffee was born at the end of April 2010 and is a medium sized Podenco X. His mother, a Podenco, was living rough in the orange groves. She had 7 pups in all; sadly they had to be taken away from her when they were only 5 weeks old as they were in danger of being killed. It wasn’t possible to catch the mother and she disappeared shortly afterwards.

Toffee is being fostered in a household with other dogs and lots of cats and gets on well with all of them. He is bright, loving and playful.

Toffee & Tyler PEPA 250 Toffee is health vaccinated and is castrated. He has all the characteristics and body shape of a Podenco, but not the pricked ears, his ears only go up as far as a “quarter to three”!

Tyler is a brother to Toffee, see them together in this photo.

Tyler is being fostered in a household with other dogs and lots of cats. He is great with all of them. Tyler is a bright loving boy who like all Podencos is very loyal in nature. He’s also health vaccinated and is castrated and also has all the characteristics and body shape of a Podenco.

Jane2 PEPA 190 Jane is a Podenco X approximately 5 years old. She was found wandering in a mountainous area by an English couple on holiday. She was weak with hunger and would not have survived much longer if they hadn’t taken pity on her and picked her up. It looked as if she had escaped from somewhere as the fur around her neck was discoloured possibly from a chain. Her elbows and hocks were covered in callous (hard lumps) where she has been laying on hard surfaces.

Jane is now with a foster carer and is getting all the care and loving that she deserves. She is coming along in leaps and bounds and enjoying her new lifestyle. She has been examined by the vet and treated for parasites.

Despite whatever may have happened to her, Jane is always wagging her tail whenever anyone comes up to her. She’s a real sweetie and is very gentle. She also loves the company of her carers own dogs.

Jane has been blood tested negative for the 3 Mediterranean diseases: Leishmania, Filaria and Erlichia

This photo of Jane was taken when she was first rescued. She’s looking more beautiful already!

See all the dogs on the PEPA website. If you can offer them a forever home, contact Pepa
