  • Calpe, Alicante – Xmas accommodation?

    Calpe horror 3 250I’ve copied this story from the Anonymous Animal Defenders Spain facebook page – the story was first reported on 16th December, below you can read the updates. (google translation)

    These dogs have been located on a property (apparently abandoned) in the Alicante town of Calpe, their situation has been reported to Seprona, hopefully something is done and act fast.

    DESCRIPTION:

    There were several kennels, 1 which looks upon arrival to the property is the PITBULL, desperate because he did touch, you can see that the space you have is very small, like a kennel, surely it is used for breeding.

  • Valencia podencos – together forever

    Bev esme Nacha on arrival 250When I visited Bev, I met two of the 50+ podencos rescued from a hellhole in Valencia. Their necks bore the marks made by the chains and collars. After rehabilitation with Bev and Warren, they have now both found their forever family. a wonderful happy story!

    Bev writes. As we prepare Nacha for her big trip to America to Sallie Lisa and her team at Grateful Greyhounds Inc. there is another twist to this story. One I had secretly hoped for and this week it has become a reality. We got confirmation that Nacha will be reunited with Esme and these two Podencos will never be separated again. Martha Feltenstein, who has already adopted Esme, was at the airport on the 5th December to welcome Nacha and take her home. This fantastic ending to such a sad story has only come about from the co-operation and team work of so many people.

  • Podenco Friends – Bev Farmer tells her story

    Bev Tilly 250It’s 10 years since Bev Farmer first met Tilly and so began her journey into the world of the podencos – life was never to be the same! Bev tells her story.

    10 years ago this month I encountered my very first Podenco. We had suddenly lost one of our dogs and called into a local shelter. Tilly was curled up in ball shivering and looking so vulnerable, so yes we will have her. She had been discovered in a large refuse bin covered in rubbish with one of her front legs badly broken.

    So, having absolutely no idea what a “Podenco” was, we took her home.

  • Alicante area – 2 podencas needing help

    2 Podencos Adopcions Conjuntes 250 11 2013These two podenca bitches were found alont the Aspe-Crevillente road, Alicante. They have no collars or chip. The people who rescued them have 3 dogs already and can’t keep these podencas much longer. If no shelter or asso can take them, they will be taken to the pound. Please help.   • Rescued Podencos in Murcia – podencos for adoption

    To spend some time with Bev and Warren and all their foster podencos in Murcia – well, a few are permanent residents – was a fabulous experience. I offered to help with the dogs but they were organised, they had their routine, so I did as I was told! Walking on the campo with Bev and the young hounds, watching her training them on recall was fabulous.

  • Almeria building site – rescue of two abandoned podencos

    Bev Neo Dallas building site 250 10 2013These two podencos were abandoned on a building site in Almeria. Appeals went round and Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends said she would have room – as 4 dogs were leaving to go to their forever homes. But Almeria is a long drive from Alicante so she arranged with the young rescuer to meet up part way.

    Bev says. ‘Early start tomorrow after making sure our four are safely on their way on the transport taking them to their forever homes. Then we will be driving down to Almeria to get these 2 Podencos left abandoned in a construction site.’

    Bev and Warren got the two podencos safely back to home base. Here’s what Bev writes about their rescuer.

  • Podencos in Murcia waiting for forever homes

    Solo shade 1 250As usual, my recent visit to Spain was full of action and, even better, rescued dogs! You can read about my visit to ACTIN on this link. From there I spent a couple of days with Bev and Warren and their 26 podencos at the finca they recently moved to. Most of the podencos are waiting for their forever homes, including Solo and Carina. Little puppy Sky and his best buddy Rembrandt already have adoptions arranged, as does Dave and little Maneto Lily. Please contact Bev if you would like more information on her podencos. She will shortly have a website where you can see them all.

  • Podenca Amira in Murcia – from hell en route to happiness

    Amira A heart warming tale about a beautiful podenca. Bev tells her story.

    Introducing Amira who came from a Perrera. At first she was reserved by a Spanish association but she escaped the next day and lived wild in the campo for weeks. Someone managed to catch her and they wouldn’t take her back so the perrera contacted me and asked if I would take her.

  • Holidays in Alicante – no accommodation for this podenca

    I only read this story today, no one contacted me with the appeal. I might have been able to help – put people in touch with each other where others – it’s what I do ‘behind the scenes’ at Podenco Post and Galgo News. So many people tried to help when those who were asked first and should have helped DID NOTHING! So sad. She could have been saved….
