    Podenquitos[ July 2011 Maribel 250 3 beautiful babies who don’t deserve to be in a killing station. I haven’t got much information, the email implies that they are in Jerez perrera in Cadiz, along with a handsome brindle year-old male galgo with an injured hind leg. The information came from Maribel. Any further information or help welcome.

  • SARA Protectora Podencos to UK in July – needing forever homes

    SARA Lanz Jorge crop 190 01 2011 SARA Protectora Lanzarote have 3 dogs going back to the UK in mid-July, who are searching for their forever homes. Here they are:

    Jorge has been in SARA for too long and needs a forever home. We sought him out recently because his name kept on appearing on the Sara lists and it seemed that our paths ought to cross.

  • Holidays on Lanzarote – visit SARA Protectora and the podencos

    SARA Braille 250 11 2010 SARA Protectora shelter on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands work very hard to help abandoned dogs and cats, especially podencos. Here is a list of some more of these fabulous dogs, desperately waiting for homes on mainland Europe, which is their only hope of a life outside of the shelter. As I keep saying, these dogs make fabulous companions, Pets as Therapy dogs, agility dogs – if adopted young. And are extremely loyal. Please give them a chance.

    FITO – Submissive and nervous, very kind. Needs somebody who gives him security and love. He doesn’t pull on the lead and is now beginning slowly to become more confident when outside.

  • TARA animal shelter, Gran Canaria – podencos searching for forever homes

    TARA Mogan Vitola May 2011 250 Brian Baptist is a volunteer with TARA, an animal rescue shelter in the beautiful port of Mogan on Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. He’s passionate about the podencos on the island and the hard life they have. Here’s what he writes.

    ‘Canario Podencos are a breed of canine that evolved from goddesses and gods of Egyptian folklore. If any canine is god-like, it must certainly be the Podenco. They are beautiful beyond belief – ethereal in presence and physicality. Despite their reputation as a hunting dogs, they are in truth just about the best family pet for whom a human could hope.

  • SARA Lanzarote – podencos searching for forever homes….

    SARA Pittaway 05 2011 230 How many of you travel to the Canary Islands in search of sunshine, sand and sea. But do you know what goes on behind the scenes, everyday life for the people and animals who live on these islands year in and year out?

    It’s extremely difficult for the podencos on the Spanish islands to find forever homes. Their only chance is on mainland Europe. Some of them are adopted in Germany, a few in the UK. Here are some of the beauties at the SARA Protectora shelter on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

  • Catching a podenco who befriended a galga

    Denzil Tina 250 An abandoned galga was wandering around Torre Pacheco in Murcia, a chord hanging from her neck. A podenco befriended her. He was named Denzil.   • Two Podenca Mums in Valencia – anyone room for them?

    Family Trapp Valencia perrera 250 One of the things which amazes me about the refusal of the Spanish councils and authorities to do anything to stop the abandonment of dogs and cats is that there is a high health risk – toxocara canis. Dog mess everywhere, where kids walk and play! Here’s the tale of two more podencas, dumped and now with puppies to feed. Can anyone help?

    This poor podenca is in the perrera in Valencia. You can see from the state of her that she is struggling to feed 10 puppies! They have been called the TRAPP FAMILY. She was picked up and taken to the perrera when a neighbour of the person feeding her threatened to poison her. In the perrera they ae all exposed to viruses and infection. Can anyone help this beautiful podenca? The brave TRAPP deserve our help.
