  • Podenca Penny with SOS Podenco Rescue – looking for an experienced quiet home

    Penny 1 350
Penny is a two year old Andalusian podenca saved from a pound. She had a fracture on a front leg. She had surgery and she is fine, she can run quite fast and she is not in pain. But sometimes she still holds it up.

Small size around 40 cm to the shoulders. She is terrified of men. She is shy with unknown women but once she trusts you, she is very affectionate. Very social with other dogs. Very playful. Cat workable. Negative to Leishmania.

She needs a house with fenced garden in a calm environment without kids and with at least another playful dog.

She is not very good on a leash because she is scared of everything and she tries to escape.

Older dogs often get overlooked but they can be wonderful companions with many years of life left in them. We adopted 2 older podencos, sadly lost one to stomach cancer but Rosie is still full of beans and enjoying a comfy loving home.

  • More control of Rehala conditions in Spain – PACMA need to step up

    Rehala podencos 8 2025 350
These are rehala podencos – hired out for the day to hunters just to hunt. Otherwise kept in conditions like this!

    From Plataforma NAC

Guardia Civil proposes to PACMA – Partido Animalista to intensify inspections on hunting dogs.

Javier Luna has sent on Friday 1st August a formal request to the Head of the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard to strengthen inspections of rehalas, in the face of the serious situation of abuse suffered by dogs used as hunting tools in Spain.

  • Start of hunting season in Spain

    Galgos 112 black galgo 31 7 2025 350
    From Galgos 112

On August 10, the “hunting tooth in hand” period of rabbit begins in Andalucia. It’s a minor type of hunting in which dogs are used to track and capture pieces, without the use of firearms. The terror begins for the poor dogs that won’t stop until February.

We are noticing how the date is getting closer by the number of greyhounds and podencos that appear lying around: now is when they start to take them out of the zulus to prepare and test them. Every day there are new ones abandoned, they are the ones that aren’t strong or the ones that don’t serve them to hunt.

  • Podenca Amira – ill with Coronavirus – please help with vet fees

Sunday 3/08 Amira had a vet appointment scheduled. This extra checkup was supposed to determine why she was losing weight, and it turned into a rollercoaster of emotions. For a couple of days, she refused to eat any food on her own, and that remained a complete mystery to us—until yesterday.

The vet left nothing to chance. Amira’s eyes looked dull and empty. Distemper was immediately suspected. A blood sample was taken for analysis. Fortunately, the test was negative. A small relief—but short-lived. The next option: Parvo and the Coronavirus. We held our breath.

  • A long journey ahead for Podenca Amira – dying by the roadside

The story so far about Amira, from Sandy Galgoslover

28/07 Last night, at sunset, a remarkable rescue operation took place on a highway heading towards Níjar. A Spanish girl was driving unsuspectingly when she spotted a thin, frail dog staggering along the road. It turned out to be a Podenco girl, dehydrated, confused, and so weak she couldn’t even stand. Her paws were red and painful, burned by the hot asphalt she had walked on in her desperate search for water and a little shade.

  • Podenco Radham with Project Galgo – hoping for a rural forever home

    Project Galgo Radham 7 2025 350
    From Project Galgo

Little Radham is available for adoption. He is a young, beautiful, affectionate and wonderful Podenco. Just 2 years of age, this button nosed boy is gorgeous inside and out. He loves cuddles and affection in all forms. Such a pure hearted and innocent boy, who is sociable and playful with all people and other dogs. Radham is cat safe and easy going enough to adapt to a variety of environments.

We would like Radham to have a loving home in a semi rural location, with a secure garden and preferably another happy dog for company. He’s truly amazing.

If you’d like to apply to adopt Radham, please do so via the ‘apply’ tab on our website.

    Thank you

  • Podenca Andaluz Rosie goes caravanning

    Rosie 350
There is a UK facebook group called Camping & Caravanning with Greyhounds and Sighthounds. This includes podencos. Recently the group held its first meet at Hertford Caravan Site, in a lovely quiet area bordered by huge trees and bushes in which lived squirrels, a muntjac deer and a fox. 39 hoomans and double that number of greyhounds, lurchers and whippets – and 1 Podenca Andaluz – all gathered for a lovely socialising relaxing weekend.

My Podenca Rosie is typical of Spanish rescue hounds – very fearful of men. But this weekend she excelled herself, coping with lots of strangers and even bravely accepting attention from a couple of men. Here she’s making friends with greyhound Paddy and his hoomans, plus Rosie’s Dad. The black greyhound is Brian who was very clever at getting into boxes of treats, even with the lids on!
