  • Podenca Scarlet looking for a forever home

From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria

Let me introduce you to Scarlet, a beautiful 3-year-old Podenco lady.
Scarlet was unfortunately dumped in a perrera… We don’t know her exact past—you can fill in the blanks yourself. What we do know: she’s a sociable, eager to learn, and cheerful girl who gets along well with other dogs and isn’t shy. Like every Podenco, Scarlet needs challenge and exercise. A daily walk, some mental stimulation, and preferably a canine companion at home—that’s what makes her so happy!

  • 2 old podencos – thrown away like trash

Cruelty has no limits. Two old pods have been thrown over the fence of the shelter El Campito – Salvando Peludos
Thrown in over a 2.5 m fence. You cared very little about the damage you could do to them.  Disposed like garbage, at the end of their lives, in an act of cowardice and absolute lack of humanity.
This is the sad and cruel reality facing thousands of hunting dogs. They need urgent help. They need us. We can’t fail them too.
  • Hope for Podencos- Sonny needs a foster or adoption for 22nd November

    Sonny

Date of Birth: 1st January 2023
    Gender: Male
    Size: 65cm (to the withers)/25kg
    Cats: Not tested

Sonny is a large pod who is lovely and friendly and likes to please! He is clever (like most pods) and is food oriented which makes him a great training prospect. He plays nicely with the other dogs, but we think would also do fine in a home on his own where his humans can lavish him with affection and give him lots of time and attention. He’s a confident boy and great around people – as he’s quite large, we think he’d be better suited to slightly older children. Other than that he’s pretty versatile in terms of the type of home he’s looking for!

  • Hope for Podencos – Lucky needs foster or adoption for 22nd November

    Lucky

Date of Birth: 26th May 2022
    Gender: Male
    Size: 55cm (to the withers)/23kg
    Cats: Not suitable for cats

Lucky is known as the velcro dog – he LOVES people, and does do well with both men and women when he first meets them. He’s happy when out and about on walks and doesn’t pull on the lead. He had previously been adopted in Spain but was a little anxious and sensitive around the man in the home so whilst we don’t want to rule out any potential matches we would need to caveat that any men in the home would need to work at his pace and be understanding to any nervousness displayed. Lucky prefers female dogs and would happily live with one or two. Alternatively we think he would also do well as an only dog.

Lucky could live in a town or rural setting, but he does need a garden as he enjoys being outside having a play with his doggy pals.

Lucky is a little over his ideal weight so a weight management plan would be shared with any potential adopters/fosters – this is not causing any health concerns for the vet.

  • Podenco Antonio hoping for an active forever home

    Antonio Video

Antonio is a beautiful 2 year old Podenco male with a gentle disposition.  Antonio was found on the streets of Fuerteventuras. Despite his past, he shows himself to be an extremely human, affectionate and friendly dog. Antonio is full of energy because of course he wants to seize the opportunity to show off on the chain when one finally comes by. The young male has a distinctive personality and needs both mental and physical exercise.  Even when dealing with other dogs Antonio shows himself social and uncomplicated – a real treasure who just wants to belong.  Now he only lacks one thing: a loving home where he can arrive and show what a wonderful companion he is.  Who will give Antonio a chance at a new life full of love and security?

  • URGENT ACTION needed from all SPANISH ANIMAL RESCUE ASSOCIATIONS

    From Plataforma NAC

URGENT: MAXIMUM DISTRIBUTION   –  MANIFESTING SAME DOGS SAME RIGHTS – Stick with your organization!.
As you will know, they want to exclude hunting and working dogs from the royal decree of zoos nucleus their last hope of being protected. These dogs would be even more unprotected in a royal decree issued from agriculture that would only require registration, identification and a little more. Reporting the poor condition of the handrail would be even harder.

  • 12 October, start of the Spanish hunting season

October 12, marks the beginning of the hunting season and with it, the terrible countdown for thousands of greyhounds and hunting dogs in Spain. Once again, these noble animals, used and exploited, face an uncertain fate: abandonment, mistreatment, or death when they cease to be useful for hunting.  The cycle of abuse is repeating. Countless innocent lives are already sentenced.  Behind every specimen of breeding, there is a potential discard.  Enough with the abuse and systematic neglect.
It is urgent and necessary to put an end to uncontrolled breeding and the cruel discardment of greyhounds and hunting dogs.  They deserve respect, love and an existence free of suffering, not mere tools to use and throw away.

  • PACMA, SEPRONA & UCOMA meet to discuss the hunting dogs of Spain

On October 2nd, we held a very important meeting in Madrid with SEPRONA (National Service of the Environment) and the Central Operational Unit for the Environment (UCOMA) of the Civil Guard. I was accompanied by Eva Ramos, legal advisor for PACMA, and our objective was clear: to demand more resources, more inspections, and a greater commitment to protecting hunting dogs.

We met with Major General Carlos Sarrión, head of SEPRONA, and several representatives from UCOMA to address a reality we can no longer ignore: the neglected situation faced by thousands of dogs used for hunting in Spain. (more…)
