    Recently, a Podenco was found dead, discarded in the rubbish, tied inside a black plastic bag.  She had a broken leg.

    In 2003, Tilly, the first Podenco I ever adopted, was also thrown away and left to die. She had been dumped in a rubbish container with a broken leg.  But Tilly was stubborn. She was strong-willed. And somehow, despite everything, she found the strength to keep barking until someone heard her.  That someone changed the course of her and my life.

    And here we are, 23 years later… and it still hasn’t stopped. (more…)

    Over many years Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends has en able to catch stunning photos of her rescued podencos.  It is an amazing gift.

    “Rescuing Podencos I discovered a love for photography.. plus living so remotely in the campo was such a great background to take photos.  I took this photograph from around 20 metres away. Chaz at the time was only 6 months old and stood so still, looking out across the valley, As I was looking through the camera lens, silently I thought, please don’t move.

    For just a few seconds, everything was still… and I captured that special moment.
    To see them free.  Perhaps remembering where they have been.  Perhaps wondering what lies beyond the horizon.  Or perhaps simply enjoying the freedom to stand still, breathe, and take it all in.

    Pingamor waited by the door of the lady that protected and fed him. She passed away but he didn´t know. He remained there day and night, waiting for her. Loyalty is rooted in this breed´s history.

    Happy to report that Pingamor now has a new forever home.

  • Podenca Vida – looking forward to a forever life

    The story of a tiny, incredibly fragile podenca puppy who was only 2 days old S when she came to us.  She weighed just 308 grams. Today, that little girl has grown into a beautiful, healthy young dog weighing an amazing 8 kg! What an incredible journey she has already been on.
    Yesterday it was time for another visit to the veterinarian, and once again Vida was an absolute star! 💪 She learns so quickly and continues to amaze us every single day.
    With her microchip, European passport, and rabies vaccination, she has now completed the very last step in preparing for a bright future.
