  • Beat the sandfly! New treatment for Leishmania – donate

    Leishmania is the third most important canine disease worldwide, caused by a sandfly. It bites an infected dog, then passes on the disease by biting another dog. It is diagnosed by blood test and, if caught soon enough, can be treated. Untreated, the dog will die. The disease is preventable by the use of a Scalibor collar (similar to a flea collar) but unfortunately these are expensive. Now there is a new cheaper alternative.

    Sighthound Welfare Trust have launched this appeal on behalf of Baas Galgo.

  • Hell on earth in Spain for the podencos – mainland or Spanish islands!

He’s only 8 months old, 7.2 kilos so a small boy, spent the winter living on the street as a puppy! He likes to play, is healthy and loving and loyal, he captivates everyone who meets him.     DDEVIDA is one of the associations which spends a lot of time visiting schools and youth groups educating the younger generations in Spain that animals should be treated with respect, how to care for them, not to dump them, etc.

    This is Reina, an Ibizan Podenca, probably no more than a year old. She appeared at Easter on the streets of Valencia. She has been rescued and is currently in a foster home. She is sweet and loving, submissive at the moment but with care and love, her character will emerge.

  • Podenca Blanca in Jaen – looking for her forever home

    Blanca 111 2010 250 This beautiful podenca needs a forever home. This is her recent story.

    ‘Blanca is a beautiful 3-year podenquita which was adopted last week in Barcelona.
    Today is called the adopter and says he wants to return it because the dog follows her everywhere and is overwhelming. Blanca has been abused and needs a home to help her overcome her fears. We cannot let her return to our shelter in Jaén. We are saturated and there are fights every day. Some die when attacked by other dogs. Blanca does not deserve that after having experienced the warmth of a home.

She’s affectionate with females, but terrified of men (what a surprise!). We’ve have a temporary home for her but we need to find somewhere else before 10th May. Has anyone room for her?
