    Bev Peque 400
From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends

‘Meet Peque – please share to help him find his Forever Sofa .. thank you

Peque is a young podenco, born around August 2023. Only a puppy he was left on the streets trying to survive on his own. Now in the care of Galgos Felices Fundacion he is learning to trust humans day by day. He’s already made incredible progress, but he still needs patience, love, and a calm environment to fully come out of his shell.

Why Peque Might Be Your Perfect Match:

    Healthy and sterilized
Gets along wonderfully with other dogs and cats
    well-behaved

  • Podenco Spirit with Refugio Candela – surviving against the odds

I didn’t realised it was so long ago – 2016 apparently. Readers may remember a podenco being rescued which had lost its lower jaw. I’ve searched before to find out how he got on and now I’m delighted to report below. I hope you can see this video of him, looking a little grey round the face now.

‘Sure we don’t even need to say his name because many of you will know who he is just by looking at that special look.

Spirit is another super wrestler who has lived for years in the Santuario La Candela. In 2016 he was shot in the mouth causing him to lose the entire lower jaw and causing injuries and infections that almost ended his life.

Spirit was the first dog in the world to have a jaw-drawn prosthesis integrated, it was in 2016 and in addition to the best veterinary professionals, human doctors were present in the operation.

  • Justice for Podenco Mr Bones – a call for change

    Mr Bones 400 11 2024
    From Bev Farmer

‘This is a long but important post and it would be greatly appreciated if you can share it. Paws on Hearts/Aguiproan Animal Rescue And Rehoming

As a rescuer, this is one of our greatest fears. Many rescues, including Paws on Hearts Animal Rescue and Rehoming, work tirelessly to ensure their dogs are safe, even after rehoming. A common practice is to dual-register microchips in both the adopter’s name and the rescue’s name. In theory, this system ensures that both parties must be consulted before a rescue dog is euthanised.

But tragically, this safeguard failed Mr. Bones. He is not the first rescue dog to be euthanised without a rescue’s knowledge or consent — and heartbreakingly, he won’t be the last unless change is made.

Podencos -The Great forgotten locked in kennels they had no chance to escape ..

I have not included photos of dead podencos but can be viewed on the report on the link below

This is a report from www.animanaturalis.org

Trapped and abandoned hunting dogs are some of the anonymous victims of the DANA. The effects of the DANA that recently hit Valencia have left a trail of devastation and lost lives, not only human but also animal. In Torrent, a group of volunteers from AnimaNaturalis and local organizations have found destroyed kennels and dogs with no way of escaping, exposing a painful reality: environmental tragedies deeply affect the most vulnerable and abandoned animals.
