    Podenco rescue 12 2024 400
These firefighters rescued a podenco which had been trapped for 2 days in the tree roots. The pod was handed back to his hunter who was good enough to take it to the vet for a check over. Not many hunters would do that. In Valencia.

I hope you can see this fascebook video, it is wonderful. Podenca Penny and her brother Bolt are both with Galgos Rescue Almeria at the moment, hoping for forever homes. Merlino is a black cat who also lives at the shelter and he and Penny are amazing playmates – they fight friendly rough like 2 dogs would.

    Cadiz grandpa 400
Yet another tragic story about an unwanted podenco.

This is Podenco Grandpa Zorro. He is 12 years old, is super good and has been very loyal. Now his owner does not want him anymore and is going to take him to the perrera unless a protective association can save his life. He is Cadiz.

    Heartless.

This tiny podenco was thrown over a fence, he’s skeletal. In Cordoba Andalusia. Anyone who can help this young male? I’ve suggested they contact Asociacion Segunda Oportunidad which is in Cordoba.

(so sad these wonderful dogs are treated like rubbish to be thrown away)

  • The Waste of Spanish Society by Ed Verhaegen, founder of Podencoworld

This is an article written by Ed Verhaegan published in Laverdad, an Alicante newspaper, in 2010. Sadly 14 years on the situation hasn’t changed and currently there are protests about municipal perreras being handed over to a private company which has a bad reputation for its treatment of dogs from the day they arrive.

    ‘The waste of Spanish society

Valencia, FEDENVA wants to change the law on stray animals, adaptation of the law implies that the collection and housing of stray and abandoned animals by private commercial hands, to earn this money. This means mass slaughter of stray animals in which starved will come to an end because the only purpose of these commercial companies make money. It will be the animals provided with minimal care and they will want to get rid of the cheapest possible way of animals. Valencia-The Federation for Animal Valencia (FEDENVA) wants the collection and care of stray and abandoned animals to be managed by non-profit organizations and not “by commercial companies whose goal is to make money.”

  • 10 years ago – Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends remembers….

    Bev 10 years ago 400 11 2024
This photo takes me back 10 years to a time when three special Podencos came into our care late in 2014.

Each of these boys, Juan, Raine, and Zeus, arrived with a story of sadness but also filled us with determination to help them.
Juan was found near our finca, @@abandoned in the sweltering heat of summer. Dehydrated and confused, he was lucky to have been spotted by friends who brought him to safety.

  • Podenco Campanero Oddie with Happy Footprints Association – tripod waiting too long for a forever home

    Oddie 2 11 2024 400
So sad, this lovely Podenco Campanero has been waiting for over 2 years for a forever home.

‘ODDIE. IS IT TRUE THAT THEY DON’T LOVE ME BECAUSE I HAVE 3 LEGS? We can’t believe that. That would be too cruel.

I was rescued over 2 years ago by Happy Footprints Association with a shot in my elbow that left me totally wounded.. tried with medication to cure me, but there was no way, and there was a high risk of endangering my health, so there was no choice but to amputate my leg. I don’t mind having 3 legs at all, because I live a totally normal life, but it seems… because of this no one wants to adopt me.

  • Canicross – an activity with your active podenco

    Canicross 400
Unlike galgos, the majority of Podencos are very active and intelligent dogs who require plenty of exercise and stimulation. I liken them to Border Collies. Besides agility, Canicross is a growing activity proving popular with pods adopters – mind you, you have to be fit too!! Here are a couple of videos about Canicross.
