Many people are concerned when their dog starts to lose its sight – how will it find its way around? We made the choice to adopt a blind dog as they are always harder to find forever homes. And it has been a revelation, not least because wherever he goes out in public wearing his Blind Dog harness, it’s always a conversation starter with most people.
We adopted Rosie and blind Bo (Bocelli of course!) nearly 2 years ago, they have stayed in kennels whenever we have gone on holiday. The owner is a very quietly spoken calm man who works with rescued German Shepherds so he is very sympathetic to our 2 rescued hounds. However, we’ve always missed having our dogs with us on holiday, for beach walks etc.

This is Flaky, in a shelter in Alhaurin le Grande, Malaga. Here’s his very sad story.
A Shelter, a CAGE (5 Long years have been WAITING) should NOT be for life, just passing, but some angels signed their DEATH SENTENCE from before birth.

FLAKY lost EVERYTHING overnight. His mommy that he LOVED so much and she loved him, went to heaven. And since then he has gone through 3 Shelters to arrive where he is in. He has been waiting for 5 YEARS. FLAKY loves humans above all, also his fellow dogs, but does NOT tolerate cats and also he is a VERY CURIOUS dog, he likes to wonder everywhere.
Flaky is one ofthose little podencos who spend years and years in a shelter and no one stares at them despite being absolutely wonderful. The only thing he doesn’t tolerate are cats, otherwise he is affectionate, playful, sociable, teaches shy little ones how to play, loves walks and children. He’s now 6 and a half years old and has been waiting for over 4 in our shelter after his previous mom died.

Metta was born on the 1st December 2022. She is now 8 months old and is so looking forward to finding her forever home. Metta’s fosters have played a pivotal role in rescuing her from a life of potential hunger, multiple pregnancies and ill health. They have taught her how life should really be for a puppy!

Podencos are high jumpers, much more so than galgos. Galgos caan be escape artistes, podencos are high jumpers!
So here’s an article by Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends on just why rescue associations insist on fencing/walls to be at least 2m high before adopting a podenco.
Why do we request secure fencing ideally 2m high.
To be fair over the years very few of the Podencos have climbed or jumped the fencing, but if motivated they have the ability to do so. The majority have little interest to escape. Plus it’s not always the big podencos, this is Rebecca who was smaller and she would climb the fencing like a rock climber and it was no problem her making the 2m jump down.
I understand people’s frustration about the stipulation for secure fencing but it is for the safety of the dog and trying to reduce the risk of it escaping. Once on the run they could get injured or worse and no one wants that.

The little Podenca that has no knee caps is now called Wiggles. We love that name, it really suits her as she was wiggling down the streets just doing her own thing. Wiggling in & out of bars doing her own thing. Wiggling across busy roads doing her own thing. She’s a wiggle pants. Welcome Wiggles

‘A couple of months ago I asked for your help for Karina. After many enquiries for her an adoption was agreed, but sadly the family have decided not to proceed.
Karina was handed over by her hunter, the reason he gave, she does not want to hunt only wants to look after her daughter so is no use to me. She has been in the rescue for 2 years and no interest in her.
Six years old and 23 kilos, she would be happy to be an only dog or possibly with with another female that is sensitive and calm and she is good with smaller dogs. Sadly she has been attacked by male dogs due to her very gentle nature. Pepa tells me she is very faithful to people quiet and calm, she loves to go out for walks.
