Never give up working with a fearful dog – the rewards are wonderful
From Bev Farmer
Pepe .. the same dog a very different momentFor those who have recently joined us this is Pepe… a podenco born in the countryside with his 8 siblings, and their mother, for months trying to survive.. It left him with a deep rooted distrust and fear of humans. Once rescued he was completely shut down and if approached in his kennel would pee and poop himself and out of self preservation he was a fear biter. I’ve been working with him for 7 months now, and he is a very different dog..Trust replaced fear, one day at a time.Months of quiet, consistent kindness. When a dog feels safe, everything changes. This is why I never give up.(It took me over 2 years working with a very frightened galga to gain her trust for her to become a ‘normal’ dog_never give up) -

Podenca Fliss – starving and lost in the UK

From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends
Some updates remind us why rescue matters… The Podenca I shared a few days ago from the pound in the UK is finally safe. After seeing my post on Thursday, Pam McLeod from Podencos in Need – PINS immediately contacted the pound in Bradford. Today, they signed her over into Pam’s care.of Fliss when she was rescue. It was a long journey to freedom. Pam’s wonderful team member, Sandie, and her husband drove to collect her before meeting Pam and her husband in Carlisle, who then took her home to Scotland. She has been given a beautiful new name… Felicity, or Fliss for short.Sadly, Fliss is one of the most severe cases of long-term neglect and abuse. From her microchip records, we know she is at least eight years old, and on Monday, when the veterinary college reopens, we hope to learn more about her history. -
Salva un Podenco Gran Canaria – podenco rescue on Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

“Save a Podenco in Gran Canaria” is an animal shelter run by volunteers. Since 2017, we have been dedicated to the rescue, protection, and raising awareness about Podencos. Because they are used for hunting, Podencos are excluded from current animal protection laws, which makes it very difficult to help them.
We rescue them, find them foster homes, and prepare them to be happy; to have a family that lasts them a lifetime. (more…)

Pepito Refugio de Perros (formerly Akira Animal Sanctuary) – Podencos for adoption

Akira Animal Sanctuary is now Pepito Refugio de Perros but they still carry out the rescue, shelter, foster and rehoming of Pedrera’s unwanted and abandoned dogs. As always, Podencos are amongst those hoping for forever homes. Meet Sammy
Sweet girl- Loves people & other dogs- Great family dog She was brought to us severely wounded – with two toes so badly injured they needed to be amputated. She has been recovering in a lovely foster home (big thank you Run!) – but she is now looking for her forever home. She is housetrained, loves people, good with other dogs. Great family dog. She is 5 years old. Who will give Sammy a chance?
Contact the shelter if you can give Sammy the forever home she deserves.
This weblink will take you to Nin and Laika, 2 more deserving podencos hoping for forever homes.

Podenca Princessa hoping for a forever home in her twilight years

Eleven years of loyalty… and now all Princesa wants is a warm bed and someone to love her.
This is Princesa, an 11-year-old Podenca who is searching for a loving retirement home. She is currently in the Valencia region of Spain.
At a time in her life when she deserved extra love and care, Princesa was signed over to Friends of Aprop after developing a health condition that is easily managed. Sadly, because she was no longer considered “useful,” her owner chose not to stand by her through her golden years, leaving the shelter to give her the care she deserves. (more…) -
