  • TAIL Torrox, Andalucia – introducing Charley, waiting for a special home

    TAIL Charley 1 250Unlike the keyboard bully to whom I refer in an earlier post, I don’t profess to know all there is to know about podencos. Yes, I’ve been involved in their rescue, foster, rehoming for several years but in order to complete my definitive guide to the plight of the Podenco – From Pyramid to Perrera – I enlisted the help and experience of several other people involved in helping these wonderful hounds. There are new associations to add to the ever growing list on Podenco Post and only this week I have been introduced to one.

    I’d like to introduce you to Charley, a podenco with TAIL Torrox, a refuge in Andalucia. Carly Cole tells his story.

  • Podenco near Cadiz urgently needs a forever home

    Karen Abu 250 1This lovely little podenco is Abu, with a sad history, the scar of which he wears round his neck! He’s been rescued and is in foster but will need to leave soon, so Karen urgently needs another foster home or preferably a forever home for him. Here’s what she says about him.

    Abu, a small podenco. around 6 years old. boy. healthy. Good with bitches and most boy dogs as long as they aren’t dominant. very good nature. In desperate need of a loving home. Has rope scars from being tied probably for long periods of time while owner leaves for days!! This boy has had his share of misery and now deserves to have some
    quality time!!

  • Keyboard bullies – ban them!

    During my working life, I wore 2 hats. One was with BBC Radio, the other was in the legal profession. But both overlapped in so far as I was trained to carry out full research on a subject, check the wording of whatever I wrote and include references where possible to substantiate my claims. This work has stood me in good stead, especially publicising some dishonest working practices by a firm of solicitors which I, with the help of the BBC, exposed on television. There was nothing the solicitors could do about it because the report was full of fact and backed up, and also passed by the BBC legal department.

  • URGENT – 1 MILLION SIGNATURES REQUIRED BEFORE 11 OCTOBER

  • Podenco Friends in Murcia – working for the podencos

    Bev Podenco folders 400Bev Farmer and Warren, Podenco Friends in Murcia are doing incredible work for the podencos. although they only planned on having a couple of dozen in foster, they now have over 40! Here’s an update of their recent achievements from Bev.

    ‘Something to celebrate, in the last two months we have rehomed 28 dogs 26 of them podencos. In addition we were able to include on our transport a Podenco for Galgos Del Sol and a Galgo for Scooby to America, assist with an adoption for a podenco for Irene Allan and re-home another locally.

    14 transports to 6 different countries and it has taken some organizing, many thousands of Kilometers covered via road to get to the airports and then many thousands more with 5 flights over the Atlantic to the US and Canada, 5 flights leaving Alicante for Holland and Belgium and 4 seperate road transports.

  • Hound Sanctuary – help needed in Munich, Germany in August

    Here we go – the full details of the appeal from Rain of Hound Sanctuary, desperately needing help.

    We have three dogs from different locations in Spain who all need to fly out of Munich on the 24th of August. So here’s what we need:

    1) Transport from Spain to Munich
    2) Depending on when that transport is, they may also need a place to stay for a few days in Munich
    3) Delivery to our flight escort in Munich Airport on the morning of 24th August for departure

    I need someone in Munich to hold 3 podencos for us for two to three days in August until my flight escort gets there to pick them up. We are flying from Munich on the morning of August 24th, on Lufthansa. My volunteer asks that I get the dogs to her at the airport that morning.

    Janice pod pix 250 6 2014These four lovely podencos are lucky, they were saved and are now all living comfortable lives with Janice Ball in the UK. Here’s who they are.

    ‘My four Pods together, just so everyone can see how different they all are, they come in all sizes!! Suzi (white) and little Paco (front right) come from Spanish Stray Dogs UK. Paco is a Podenco Maneto and is quite small with his little legs. Casey and Scarlet are Andalaz Podencos. There are some much bigger as well, so you see there is a Podenco for everyone. So many are discarded every year in Spain and they make such wonderful pets, please do think about adopting one, so many are waiting.’

    Hundreds of podencos are being killed every week in the perreras. That’s because there are hundreds in foster and kennels and refuges waiting to be adopted, so there is no space for the perrera pods. Here’s a comprehensive list of rehoming associations.

  • Portuguese Podengos – 2 more urgently needing forever homes

    Two more podengos in Portugal who have been waiting far too long for forever homes. Here are the details of Vigo, who I mentioned before – and Branqhuina – Branqhuina especially needs a forever home as she will shortly have to leave her foster. Here is Branqhuina on video – Piloto was her puppy who has been rehomed.
