Please, if you have room in your home and heart for one, contact Pedro HUELLADEJAEN@HOTMAIL.COM Can any associations help with foster homes for onward adoption? Podenco Canario Louis…now safe and on the road to recovery
This is Louis found wandering alone in the northern region of Lanzarote. He is about 1 to 2 years old, really friendly but very thin.. But rather than him go to the perrera, they have agreed for him to go directly to Laura Johnson of the Kennel Klub so he will get all the care he needs straight away. Aas always we have to wait 21 days in the event his owner comes forward, but once that expires we can make plans for him to come over to us in Murcia and he will be available for adoption.

Help the 4 rescued podenco x pups at SOS Animals
You may remember at the end of July I appealed for someone to help with a Podenco Mum and her 5 pups, born in a cave. The man caring for them had to leave, there was no room in any of the shelters, but luckily a local volunteer came forward. Mom and one pup are being adopted by their rescuer, but the other 4 pups are in the SOS Animals shelter in Coin and they desperately need the funds to prepare the Pet Passports so these gorgeous pups can be adopted.
Please share and donate to this fundraiser, every little helps

National Geographic – read about the Galgos and Podencos
Regular readers may remember a few years back I was contacted by London photographer Martin Usborn, who wished to visit Spain to photo the galgos, and wanted the details of a couple of refuges to contact. The result was a stunning coffee table book. Here are links to 2 interesting articles which have appeared in National Geographic magazine, the first one being an interview with Martin.

Letter to Senor Galguero revisited
In March 2013 I published this ‘Letter to Senor Galguero‘. Sadly all it expresses still applies today. The Hunting Federations have not improved matters – no controlled breeding of galgos, no mass abandonment, still keeping them in dark underground locked bunkers….what has changed is that there are now millions of Spanish people who are thoroughly ashamed of the bad press the hunters bring to their lovely country and protest vociferously every year throughout major cities in Spain.
Fermin Perez Martin of Scooby Medina presented a Spanish translation to the Federation of Galgueros when he was in dialogue with them to try and improve the situation. Needless to say, the galgueros refuse to acknowledge they cause a problem!
We must keep supporting those fighting the cruelty perpetrated on galgos by the galgueros in any way we can.
Please feel free to share the ‘Letter’but ensure that I am credited as its author.

Galicia, Spain – penalising people who help stray animals
There is a law which allows authorities to penalise people who help stray animals. I published about it recently when Malaga put up posters warning people they would be fined 500 euros for helping stray animals! Galicia province is now proposing to enforce the law, so please sign this petition to protest about it. The petition will be printed off and handed to the authorities.
