  • Help the repair process for this little podenca

Manuela podenca in vet 400 17 12 2016Update on the little Podenquita picked up on the road with a broken hip and unable to stand. The Recal shelter has taken care of her and, already, she is in the veterinary clinic to be examined. Recal needs your help to cover expenses because she is not the only dog needing help. So, please, if you can contribute something, with whatever it is https://www.paypal.me/ManuelaCornejo.

Manuela Cornejo is a councillor in Feria and, as an animal lover, she is contacted regarding any needing help! Her work is voluntary, so please help towards the vet fees to get this young little podenca back on her feet and ready for adoption. There will be regular updates on her diagnosis, progress and vet bill amount.

  • Podenco Friends – Lua’s story

Bev Lua 400 2016A happy ending story from Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends.

Lua…. her story began back in 2013, a feral podenca and her family surviving on the streets in Seville. She had already had 2 litters of pups. When she first arrived with us she was a very angry dog, ‘don’t invade my personal space, people are the enemy’. It’s taken a long time but today she is very much part of the family living in the house. Jasira helped so much with this change of attitude a very special friendship and Lua felt the loss just as much as us. This year Lua had surgery on her hip, she is no longer in pain, meds were helping and she has made a good recovery.

There are many more podencos at Podenco Friends, all waiting for the chance to have their own family, can you help find them? Email: podencofriends@hotmail.co.uk

  • The sad lot for thousands of podencos in the weeks to come

Valencia abandoned podenco 400 22 11 2016The sad lot for thousands of podencos…lost after hunting, abandoned in the campo or on the streets…or dumped in perreras. This poor soul is on the streets in Valencia, at risk of getting injured on the road. And it will get worse now as the hunting season draws to draws to a close. Please help with the appeals on this page…the refuges will be overwhelmed in the weeks to come, and they are already full to bursting!

  • More podencos at Pepi’s Refuge – please help!

Pied piper of Pedrera 400 25 11 2016Jane Brian writes – ‘Went to feed the stray Podenco this afternoon and we saw him spot us with tail wagging come running in front of us…then we spotted this tiny little thing following behind him…also with her tail wagging. I dont care what anyone says…he brought her to us…. because she needed our help.

We had spotted this little thing running in the village about a week ago and stopped the car in the middle of the road trying to catch her…but no luck..she was far too scared to be helped. We saw that she was only using three legs…now by the photo…we can all see why.

She was ready to be helped, now in our vets in the first step to her recovery. At this time we are not sure of the outcome for saving her leg, this is going to be a long and costly process for her and us. This poor little soul has been run over by a vehicle ( our vets words ).

If you would find it in your heart to help this little soul in her healing then please donate Paypal to pepis.dogrefuge@yahoo.co.uk.

  • Podenco Friends and TheKennelKlub – saving the Lanzarote podencos

Lanzarote new one 400 5 11 2016Lanzarote an Island located 125km of the coast of Africa part of the Canary Islands and one of 17 autonomous communities administered by Spain. A popular tourist destination year round due to its climate yet a few kms inland there is a very different story. Podencos are the primary dog chosen for hunting hidden away from view the situation for them is dire, held in underground caves and just like Mainland Spain high numbers are abandoned or handed into perreras every year. To re-home the podencos from Lanzarote is difficult due to lack of options for flights over seas, very few are re-homed to local people on the island.

It’s a small island with limited facilities and the perreras are unable to keep them due to lack of space so many podencos are euthanised or living in extremely cramped conditions. Saving the Lanzarote Podencos has been created to help and hopefully find more homes for them overseas with the collaboration of the Kennel Klub on Lanzarote and Podenco Friends on mainland Spain.

Our first rescue is of 6 Podencos just recently handed into a Perrera on the Island. All the Podencos will be attended by the Veterinary Clinic that works with Kennel Klub. Each will be fully vaccinated, health checked, blood tested and sent to the laboratories for Leishmania, Filaria, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma and will be issued with the original reports from the lab. They will be issued passports, microchipped, sterilized and accompanied with a letter of authority to change the microchip into the new owners name.

  • Podenco Spirit – shot in the mouth by a Galguero – shows his fighting spirit

Refugio Candela Spirit 400 10 11 2016Update on Podenco Spirit. In a solidary and voluntary way, caused only by the idea of making SPIRIT’s life a little better, the ethologist CELESTE ROIG has visited Valencia Sur Hospital Veterinario several times, to make sure that his mental health is the better too.

The days of hospitalization and ABOVE ALL the critical juncture he had to suffer, for being the victim of a shot in the mouth, could have caused him a great trauma.

BUT HIS STRENGHT, HIS WILL TO LIVE AND ALL THE GOOD ENERGY THAT HE IS RECEIVING FROM EVERYONE… ARE GOING TO TURN HIM INTO AN INVINCIBLE!!!!

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH Celeste Roig for your gesture.

A BEAUTIFUL chain OF LOVE FOR YOU SPIRIT… you deserve it!
