  • Update – 90 Mogan Podencos on Gran Canaria – they are out!

    Mogan full cages 400
Apologies this news is a few months late…facebook has messed up my page and I no longer get updates from some of the podenco and galgo pages I follow.

From the facebook page of 90 Mogan Podencos.

‘Across Spain there are several cases where the Civil Guardia confiscates when it appreciates obvious evidence of overcrowding, unsanitary, lack of identification, etc EXCEPT with the 90 Podencos. I can say that the Canary Podenco suffers from the greatest abuse allowed in SPAIN by all the administrations that have delegated, curiously, the protection of these and other animals.

5 4 2020 FINALLY!! Saturday, April 4, 2020, seven years later of the first complaint finally the ′90 podencos′ have been rescued. A total of 84 dogs were taken to the Bathtub hostel in an action involving the Civil Guard, Local Police and animal protector volunteers.

I took this photo back in 2013 when they were in Los Albarianes (Mogán) and I’ve been so happy to know that one of the survivors is that white and black podenco you see on your left. I feel like this because I always said only for a dog it would be worth so many years of noise. 115,000 signatures on change, radio, etc so they don’t forget about them. I put them even with a brand on Google maps so justice doesn’t get lost along the way…

  • Lanzarote podencos looking for forever homes

    Bev Travis 400 9 2020
    Travis

From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends.

‘The last flight of Podencos from Lanzarote was in February this year and all those lucky podencos are now in their forever homes.

We were ready to fly these 4 over, then COVID hit and no flights so they have been stuck in residence in the Island. Laura and her team have been making sure the dogs have been taken out on regular walks and spending time with them ..All 4 of them are very comfortable with people spent time with children so ready to be rehomed.

The Podencos on Lanzarote have little chance of finding homes on the Island and limited transport links makes it very difficult to fly them out . So that is where Podenco Friends come in we bring them to the Finca from here there are more opportunities for them to be rehomed.

  • The Podenco – abused by the hunters – be a voice to help the Podencos

    Bev podencos 400 8 2020
From Bev Farmer. The Podenco .. an intelligent and sensitive breed here Spain yet so many are subjected to a harsh and miserable life. Lack of good food and veterinary care leaves then under nourished and weak. So they find themselves abandoned left to survive on the streets or handed in to a perrera where the chances of been adopted are low.

We have no actual stats to declare how many are abandoned every year but many believe it’s in the region of 50,000.

One of the more difficult challenges is finding homes for them, these are a special breed that come with particular needs. But once you do have a podenco in your life, one will never be enough.

How can every one help? spread the word get the message out there ….be the voice for the great forgotten

  • Podenco Milo – stunning young dog looking for a forever home

    Rosana Perez Palacios Milo 400 8 2020
Milo is a stunning two-year-old amber brown podenquito, weighing 17 kilos, medium size, which in addition to being gorgeous is a puppy love. He’s got a look that makes you want to eat him kisses. He’s loving, very very noble, sociable with other puppies, of cats passes, and at home great.

As a good podenco is ideal for company, to be quietly at home and at the same time can be an athlete who loves going out to the mountain, to the beach…

It’s two years of his life he has spent them locked up in a cage, so far that is in foster with a family. It’s time for this spectacular podenquito to find that wonderful family. If you want to know more about him, see more photos and videos: 638.475.167, if not, please SHARE so he can soon be with his family.

  • Podencos Camilo and Eloy – en route to a forever home

    Polly Camilo and Eloy 400 8 2020
    Update from Polly Mathewson

A happy update on our terrified shy podenco brothers CAMILO & ELOY. Our once “IN KENNELS & IN-VISIBLE” brothers are now progressing on their way in little steps towards their ultimate goal which is a loving forever home! They are now graduating to their next stage..

You will remember their first step on from the large rural Spanish kennels (where they had become so invisible and overlooked for FIVE long years) was to our friends at Bedrock Kennels near Mijas. With our grateful thanks to Michelle and Alan and family at Bedrock the boys have already come on so much. They were so petrified when they arrived a month ago and with the happy, loving atmosphere there they are much more assured.
