Here is a fascinating article about the Ibizan Hounds on the island of Ibiza, some of which are being used as PAT (Pets As Therapy) dogs. In England my greyhound Molly was a PAT dog and we used to have great fun visiting a retirement home – folks used to love to talk about dogs they had owned, and Molly really enjoyed birthdays when she got to share the cake!
The article also explains the other activities which young Ibizan Hounds can be trained for – search and rescue, agility and so on. Podencos – whatever type – are not just for hunting or simply a companion dog. Since they are active working dogs, using them for PAT, agility and so on can enhance your ownership of one of these fantastic dogs.
There is a list of associations on Podenco Post which specialise in rescuing and rehoming podencos – please give a thought to offering one a forever home.
Madrid calling – this beautiful podenca needs an association to find it a forever home. She’s a little beauty, shy but not fearful, gets on with children, other dogs, loves to play, very sweet. Can anyone help find this sweet soul a forever home? Contact cotulorenzo@hotmail.com
And this is a desperate plea from Cordoba, to help this little Podenca Andaluz —
It’s a stray, young, injured, please can anyone take it in?
This is another abandoned podenco, wandering the streets of Seville trying to survive. He is about 2 years old, affectionate and playful. Has anyone room in a shelter for him. Contact: teredifusion@gmail.com
This is a sad story of podencos at the bottom of Spain, La Linea, near Cadiz and opposite Gibraltar. Podenco World tells the story of Peter’s Diary, Peter runs the La Linea animal shelter, 600 dogs including 200 podencos.
Pedro’s Diary: Crimes against innocent podencos.
This absolutely beautiful Ibizan Hound print is for sale through Ibizan Hound Rescue.
Here’s what Valarie Wood says about it. ‘It is a print by Caroline Howlett. The prints are £30 each and a good percentage for each one sold will go to Ibizan Hound Rescue.
The print is A4 size plus a white border.’ Stunning.

DDEVIDA is one of the associations which spends a lot of time visiting schools and youth groups educating the younger generations in Spain that animals should be treated with respect, how to care for them, not to dump them, etc.
