  • Galgos del Sol podencos waiting for forever families

    Sandy with Floyd 190 Tina July 2011 Podencos come in various sizes – read about the different types on Podenco Post – and coat colours – chestnut, chestnut and white, smooth haired, rough haired. But whatever size and coat type, they are all fabulous hounds who suffer at the hands of the hunters, just as the galgos do.

    Podencos are more active dogs, many with training will make agility dogs – a Spanish association on Ibiza uses them as PAT dogs (Pets as Therapy) visiting hospitals, homes for handicapped…..

    Podenco galgo 250 Jerez perrera July 2011 This beautiful boy is a podenco/galgo, the galgo is less than a year old. Both are on death row in Jerez (Cadiz) killing station. Can anyone help? Here’s Maribel’s message

  • Portuguese Podenco Alf, with Aanifeira, have you a forever home?

    ALF[1] 190 Portuguese Podenco Aanifera July 2011 You recently read the tale of Sonia, an aged Podenga Portuguese who has been adopted in France to join other fellow pensioners with Betty.

    Look at this stunning boy! He is another Podengo Portuguese in the shelter in Aanifeira shelter in Portugal. Here is what Jackie, who works at the shelter, says.

    ‘Our shelter is located in the north of Portugal just 35 kms south of Porto and we have around 400 dogs in our care. We have a few podengos and in fact I thought I would attach a photo of one of ours called Alf.

  • Podenca Laila, dumped at killing station, carrying a huge tumour

    Laila hernia 1 250 Silvia July 2011 This is Laila, an eleven year old podenca. She is now in the care of Silvia of Galgo Connection Spain. Here is what she says.

    ‘As you can see, Laila has a big tumour and has bred a lot of puppies. Her owner didn’t want to help the old girl and took her to the killing station. She was there about a month. I was waiting for someone to help her but finally, I thought, I have to do something and the best is to operate on her. So she is now booked in to the vet to have the tumour removed.

  • Portuguese Podenca Sonia – a forever home at last

    Sonia Betty AMCF July 2011 250 A story with a Happy Ending. This is Sonia, a Podenco Portuguese, who spent most of the 12 years of her life in a shelter in Portugal. Last month her dream of a forever home came true when she was adopted into a loving home to join 5 more podencos, plus other oldies!

    She was adopted from the association Aanifeira. I’ve only just learnt about them from Betty, who adopted Sonia to join her family of oldies, but I hope to get more information about their work.

  • Podenco pups in a killing station! Anyone help?

    Podenquitos[ July 2011 Maribel 250 3 beautiful babies who don’t deserve to be in a killing station. I haven’t got much information, the email implies that they are in Jerez perrera in Cadiz, along with a handsome brindle year-old male galgo with an injured hind leg. The information came from Maribel. Any further information or help welcome.

  • 3 young podencos starving on the campo in Murcia – urgent help needed

    Puerto Real crop 250 30 06 2011 This poor bitch is one of three podencos abandoned close to the River (murcia). A boy who saw them and took the pictures said they look young, are skin and bones. Another man in the area is trying to shoot them. Please contact any of these people to find the exact area if you can help. With the heat, and without food and water in the middle of the campo, they will not last long.
